I love buying $10 Techs on the 'bay. Of course, I have too many in my collection (13) but can't resist. My plan is always to use them to try and perfect my re-plating skills.
This one, a ball-end B4 (4th quarter, 1956) looked like a good candidate, so I offered $7.50, and the seller accepted. I couldn't really tell by the photos, but figured I could re-plate it.
It arrived today. Quick spray with Scrubbing Bubbles, toothbrush, rinse, and polish the cap with a Cap Cod cloth by hand, which revealed this:
There is one small ding on the cap that was hiding under the grime, above the second "e" in Gillette, but otherwise...wow...and proof that you can still score a very nice vintage Tech for under 10 bucks.
Anyway, no re-plating...yay!
So, if you want a nice Tech, this one can be yours.
