Sorry, can't agree on that one Doug. As per Slash's sketch, I measured the spine thickness. That gives me OPP. SIDE x 2 (in the sketch). Then I measured from the blade edge to the second mark (the one furthest from the blade edge) giving me the HYPOTENUSE.

So, using this calculator (I'm lazy), I enter the OPP. SIDE into side B, the HYPOTENUSE into side C, and the right angle (90°) into angle C (making sure there's no measurements entered anywhere else). This gives me angle B which is half the blade angle.

Fumbling about.
I intend contacting the seller after I know the razor's outcome (positive or negative). So I'd rather not give a link at this moment in time Jim.

Of course. I was premature.

It may be returnable, but I hope it's fixable. Doug seems determined!

Happy shaves,

Jim

I have a feeling there's a few gents waiting to see what happens next here.

So, whats the outcome? I hear you all asking. :001_rolle

Lets start at the beginning.

All stones laid out and ready to go.
Starting on the far left with the bevel setter, 1k Naniwa.
Running from left to right through the progression

Bevel setter is where the men are sorted out from the boys.

Quite a lot of swarf there.
First thing to note, the edge from this was sharper than what I started with.
Did the thumbnail test - perfect.
I didn't do the burr method, just used Keiths way of setting the bevel.

Moved on through the stones and ended up on Balsa.

I think my balsa is needing refreshed.

Edge from all this feels identical to my razor.
A good sign!

Best way to really tell is a shave.

With two days growth it seemed appropriate that I should be the guinae pig and test this out.

Quick shower and lathered up with my favourite, CRS Sandalwood.
I had intended on doing an A B comparison with my own razor.
Didn't work out that way in the end.

Started off with some trepidation never having used a Kamisori before.
First few strokes were a little tense.
I found myself gripping the slim handle of the razor tightly, and getting the correct angle took a little time.
But as I progressed and relaxed I started to enjoy the shave.

Second pass, S to N is where some razors fail for me.
This razor had no trouble with the difficult bits.
By the time I got to the third pass things were really moving along nicely.
I was enjoying the shave so much, completely forgot I was supposed to do an A B comparison.

Ended up with BBS in some places and DFS in my problematic neck area's.
No blood or irritation, really smooth shave.

One thing I noticed, the edge really mellowed out during the shave. Similar to how a proline changes after the first shave.

Is it as sharp as a proline? Probably not.
But this is a smooth as blades get.
If you'd asked me yesterday would I buy this razor, I would have said no.
Today is very different.
It's a really fun razor to use and I'll be sorry to see it go.

But I can't wait for Cal to test this out and give an honest opinion of what he thinks.

One thing I've learned.
Never assume that a razor you've just recieved has had it's bevel set correctly.
Always, always, always set the bevel yourself.

I could post it back to you tomorrow Cal.
But then I won't have finished the scales for it.

So, if you don't mind I'll post it off in the new year.
Then I might get another shave out of it. :001_tt2:

That is, if this baby doesn't show up tomorrow.

Thanks Cal.
I'll makes sure it's retouched up and ready to go when I'm finished with it.

You know, shaving is a great whay to chill out.
It makes me feel so relaxed and it removes all the crap of the day from your face.
Thats why I like to shave in the evenings.

Finaly finished the set of mini scales for your razor Cal.
Turned out to be harder to make than a normal set for reasons I'm not sure.
Nothing went right.
Lost count of the amount of times I had to sand it to remove scratches that I made when polishing.

So, I've not put any pins in it, they would just be for show anyway.
I'll decide in the next day or so whether to risk it or not.
The way things were going today i thought it best not to tempt fate.

Wife donated a new headband to keep the razor in place.

I'll leave it up to you if you decide to use them or not. :001_smile
