The word that really hits me in this verse is joy. In his joy he goes and sells everything he has to buy that field. God's Kingdom and knowing Christ is worth more than anything else we can imagine!

It doesn't say we will always UNDERSTAND right away or even at all during this life how it is for our good. This passage has been a comfort to me and my wife when we contemplate things we don't understand.

I always imagine that I'm going to sleep for the first 10,000 years of heaven to catch up.

John 15:18 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
I'll have to go with John 15:13 "Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one's life for one's friends"
It's been posted already but my favorite is Romans 10:9-10, 13. Sums up the gospel much better than John 3:16 IMHO.
