Arko August 2022

ARKO August 9

Razor: Gillette Tech (Canada pre-war) w/ common bar handle
Blade: Lord Silver Star (4)
Brush: Omega 10108 pro boar
Soap: ARKO stick + RR Blue Label triple-milled puck
A/S: DIY lemon witch hazel, Stephan 320 splash + Osage Rub

DFS+

Today's ARKO August mixology experiment was a similar soap combo to yesterday, but with a "blue barbershop" scent. Abundant lather with good shave performance. Improved scent, residual slickness and post-shave properties compared with plain ARKO. Very good, economical soap combo.

Blade: Astra SP
Brush: RR Beehive
Soap: Arko of course (in a mug)

Another BBS. This is a great combo, very comfortable shave. Loving Arko August. This is my first time participating.

Arko Boarko Loko shave #5. Another time shift to dawn of Arko (1957) with my 1958 D3 Executive (masterfully replated by BRG) loaded with a 1958 D4 Gillette Thin blade (2). I switched brushes to my Omega mini mixed badger and boar. It's my travel brush, and Arko is my choice for a travel soap.

This blade gave me a super comfortable BBS on its FIRST use. Today, on its SECOND use, I could definitely feel that it has lost a little of its edge (literally and figuratively). It still gave me a DFS, but it was definitely not as sharp. I also got a super small nick at the corner of my mouth; probably operator error. I may strop this blade again and see if that freshens it. But, I'll have a back up choice at the ready. I'm gonna say that back in the days of this blade and razor, folks did not use this blade more than two or three times before reaching for a fresh one.

The brush is very small and really punches above its weight. I don't choose it very often, but I should. It is actually not fully broken in, so it is a little on the scratchy side. But, it does a great job face lathering Arko and holds just enough lather for two passes plus touch ups. The badger hair also holds onto a little bit of water, which compensates for the small "volume" of bristles in the brush. I would say it's a perfect travel brush.
