Alum Block vs Styptic Pencil

I have never used an alum block but have used the pencil from time to time. IMO a perfect shave requires neither.

The styptic pencil was the first item that I mastered when I started wet shaving. It will staunch blood flow from cuts and weepers. You just have to remember to wipe the remaining styptic off of your face otherwise you walk around with white powder on your face. Yes I am speaking from experience.

Is there such a thing as a powder for stopping blood flow?

Quick Clot, but that's for large lacerations and gunshot wounds.
