A lower mid-range Titan straight razor made in Taiwan and available for under USD 40 (in August 2020) from AliExpress and other sites for a higher price.
Pros: Very good quality for the price.
Cannot fault finish.
Cons: Not shave ready out of the box (as normal)
The blade is made from Japanese VG10 stainless steel in Taiwan by Titan 1918 with the following particulars:
Edge Length = 70mm (2.75")
Blade width = 20mm (6/8)
Grind = Full hollow (almost)
Mass = 85g (3.0oz)
Smile = 1mm (0.04")
Balance = 6mm (0.24") from pivot pin away from blade when opened 1880deg.
Spine thickness = 6.1mm (0.24")
Bevel angle = 18.8deg
Scales = Stainless steel with Mahogany outer and brass end caps
Scales thickness = 16mm (0.63") max near centre
Overall length = 160mm (6.3") closed and 245mm (9.6") open
Overall height = 24mm (0.9") closed
As is usual with most factory produced edges, the edge of this blade is not really "shave ready". You will need to properly set the bevel and progress through your preferred honing system to achieve that dragon edge.
Being a VG10 type stainless steel, the blade of this razor is noticable more corrosion resistant than normal plain high carbon steel blades. This blade is harder than the normal Gold Dollars and is most noticeable when honing.
This straight razor was supplied with the standard Titan PU leather zippered case with stainless steel surrounds and a 61mm (2.4") dual calf-hide and denim strop. There was also some lapping paste included.
The blade is well centred in the scales.
The blade is fitted with a washer either side at the pivot pin.
Overall, I find this VG10-HZ straight razor much better quality than their ACRM-2 razor, although this one costs about 70% more.
Available on AliExpress for under USD 40 (in 2020) and other on-line sites for more.
