Safety Razor Acquisition Thread.

After shaving with the Fatip Grande a couple of days ago, I decided to pick up the Fatip Gentile.

Wonderful razor, full impressions here.

I picked up this NOS Gillette Tech razor (Made in England) & a pack of Gillette blades included for £5 as it was a good deal. The blades were made in the Annecy plant (France) I find these to be on par or better yet even better than the other Swedes that where made in Poland. Such a good blade, I don't really like using older blades barring these & some of the older Wilkinson Sword's that were made in England, most newer blades are much better than majority of the old blades but the ones I mentioned give all the modern blades a run for their money. My favourite modern blade is the Gillette Rubie I know everyone likes Nacets etc.. but the Rubie blade is the most premium, the top tier modern blade from Gillette imo, also I like Kai's & Polsilver's.

White plastic handle, No Gillette logo on the head, nickel plated finish.

& lastly (probably the best to last) I got a Velvet razor these where made in my home city of Birmingham UK they were sold in Woolworths, there were a few different models, this model is the one you rarely see, very happy with this one, the condition looks great although I may lightly polish it up over the weekend, maybe just the top cap to get the micro hairline scratches out, the rest of the razor looks in great condition considering it's age.

Is this the one that has the transparent plastic baseplate?

Super Barba Gold with 5 blades, at about US$ 5 each pack at Amazon Brazil. It happens to be a rebranded Lord L6 razor with 5 also rebranded great Israeli Personna blades included.

Who knows Lord L6, knows this razor.

Very inexpensive, lightweight, some "brute" construction but flawless shaving and no issues with blade alignment.

The perfect traveling razor.

Several small scratches on top cap, but for this price who cares ?

I put wrong price, it is not US$ 5 but really I paid US$ 3.00 for each set.

I adopted a ‘60 (F1) Fatboy from a shop on Friday. There was quite a bit of corrosion on the nickel plating. Once I cleaned it up I could see the plating was thinning on one side of the handle. It may be a good candidate for a refurb.

As I clean up more and more old razors I've noticed that the razor may have plating that's thinning, mineral build-up, or cloudiness on one side. I've got an unproven theory that the razor was set down in the shower or on the sink the same way over the years and it stayed wet or soapy, (marinating,) on the bottom side a bit longer, which takes a toll on the finish. Has anyone noticed this effect on the finish?

Weird question. I bought something described as a Merkur Futur (matte, Model 700) on eBay. It came w/o the snap-on top, but that was inexpensive enough to remedy.

Thing is, I understand that this is supposed to weigh around 120 g, but mine checks on at 89 g. Did I get taken, or is this correct for a Futur 700?

Thx,
-Z

There are a LOT of cheap copies of the Futur made in China, they are all lighter than the real thing and also shave less efficient. They run for $10-$16 on A.....n. Real Futur $70-100.
