What's new

Safety Razor Acquisition Thread.

I've been using the blades that came with my Haward razor and they are surprisingly sharp. Not bad at all.

New to me from the BST 🤓
Felt lucky to find this in the exact configuration I was about to buy.

Just an "in-between" pic? No "before" and "after?" :crying:

It did not look much worse then it does now, but it had massive buildups everywhere. At the moment it is clean and will function. Except the adjuster ring (this is either pitted or someone tried to force it with a tool?) the nickel is also more or less decent, the gold not so much.

Another delivery and rescue project for me; this 1946? (no notch, w/endcaps) Gillette Ranger Tech. First photo is BEFORE from eBay listing and shows the case and blade dispenser that came with it (neither of which is a correct match for the razor.

This second photo is AFTER my cleanup and polish.

Everything is in working order with blade gaps of 0.020 inches (maybe a bit mild for this razor?). Ready for another 74 years of service :thumbup1:

I took a shot at polishing the plastic on this case also just to see if I could clarify it a bit. It came out pretty well I think.

New Handles:
In the last couple of weeks, I purchased 2 Goodwill razors (160 and a 161). However, I prefer longer heavier handles that the stock Gillette handles with these razors. The new handles arrived today and I had time to take one from matt to polished with a Dremel and a little 100,000 grit diamond paste. When I get time I will polish the second handle. Both provide a great shave with an entirely different feel from each.

This package turned up today. Another eBay purchase. I had them in my watching page and the Sellers description had them as 2 unbranded safety razors. With a couple of hours to go I had a look and the price was moving up. On closer inspection before the auction finished I realised that one of them was an Eclipse Red Ring. I won.

I'm having way too much fun buying old razors. This one needs no spa treatment from me to resurrect it like so many of the others that I've purchased. It's an absolutely mint 1961 (my birth year) G4 Gillette Tech in the box with a pack of 2 period-correct blades (from 1962 that I had in my "inventory"). As a bonus, the seller included a NOS 15-blade dispenser of Gillette Super Blue Blades in its paper box. I opened the box and tried to date the blades but couldn't. I can't wait to try this one. I'm debating whether to put one of the vintage blades from the included dispenser in it. The weight feels perfect, and its finish is flawless.
