I used to laugh at southern winter weather fear and precautions until I moved south and saw how the natives drive. Now, I think it's the most logical thing in the world to shut everything down and just let it melt before you open your door again.

The problem at least in the Dallas area is all the roads are elevated so they ice easier, the snow removal equipment is subpar compared to the North, and the pure volume of traffic just screws everything up. Here you can't really blame the drivers you just can't move.
