My Guess... 3017

It’ll be done by week’s end. The Chubby 2 synth is treating the soap like a narc at a biker rally. Next up will be the last soft soap in the den, my last Saint Charles Shave soap, ‘Refined.’

I had the pleasure of 3017ing a couple SCS soaps. I never got to try the Refined scent, but I recall Bulgarian Rose as being excellent. Excellent soaps, my only complaint is both soaps went very quickly. Otherwise wonderful products from a wonderful person. I’m green with envy. Enjoy!

That's my only complaint as well. I think it's just the curse of the soft soaps. I will relish this one.

Hit the bottom of B&M Cologne Russe today. Probably a couple weeks to go. Good shaves, but smells like violets and baby powder to me. Probably won't buy the scent again but the soap performs well.

MWF is turning out to be a very good soap. I did experience thin, disappearing lather. This was caused by not enough product. This occurred when using a larger or denser knot like the SHD. With my "normal" brushes I did not experience this. When using my larger or denser brushes, I simply added more load time. I noticed MWF is very hard. I can see why it loves repeated use. Loading was certainly made easier using it every day.

Today I almost made it to the bottom. I had about 5mm to go. I redistributed the soap that formed along the edges. I suspect I have about a month left. This will put me at about 3 months or 90 shaves per puck. Not sure if this is normal with MWF. Of course, soap has a tendency to last longer than projected.

I will add, we have very hard water in the Phoenix area. That may affect the amount of product I use.

Opted for MW Lavender next and right away I was reminded this soap can be fussy. Trying to get big fluffy lather doesn't work for me but if you accept that it will look thick and yogurt-like and things are fine.

My last couple soaps were so easy to lather I got spoiled so this soap is going to get the extra heavy loading treatment. Don't know if I will finish this up by the end of the year but it will be close.

Plugging along with Pré de Provence. About three and a half months in and might break through the middle in a couple of weeks. This is and has been a great soap. Fantastic scent and good performance. The secret for me is getting enough water into the lather.

Speaking of soft soaps going quickly. My latest 3017 effort, CRSW Winter, I started on Thanksgiving. 2 weeks later I can see hints of the bottom of the plastic tub. This soap really goes fast. I'm sure I'm unintentionally loading heavy and could dial back a bit, but still.

Performance is outstanding in every regard and the matching balm is also excellent. Not sure if this will last until Christmas or not. CRSW's version of schafmilch will be next. While its a different formula its also very soft and I expect it to go quickly. Once I've burned through these I plan on getting back to triple-milled.

So my brief excursion into modern artisanal soaps has been interesting. Scent and performance are other worldly, but they go fast and are relatively expensive. They are loaded with oils and butters which make them great for Fall and Winter months in my part of the world, but I can't see myself using them in hot humid weather. I think they would be too greasy for my skin type.

Cologne Russe is done after today's shave. From hitting the bottom to the small ring of soap at the edge breaking up only took 7 shaves - half the time I thought it would take. I'm not sure exactly how many shaves I got from the tub. It was partially used when I started 3017'ing it. Seemed to go pretty fast though. B&M shaves never disappoint but the lather is even better with daily use. By the end my lathers were fantastic and I'm a little sorry to see that one come to an end. I'll have to think what to work on next. Maybe a chunk of the Cella brick until Christmas at least. I expect to get some good stuff then and it'll be hard to resist trying out whatever I get.

SCS Refined is as good as I remembered it. It's not the kind of soap that gives you a billowy Santa Claus lather, but it delivers an incredibly rich, slick lather that is as protective as you can ask for. Oh, and it smells amazing as well.

I got moves like Jagger
I wouldn't normally put samples in my 3017 log, but 3 x 1/2-samples of CBL Tonsorial (I cut each sample in half to share with @Somnos ) lasted me 66 days with each and every shave providing great lather. The scents were Jeris, SIR Fougere, and Roasted Oatmeal Stout. I don't think that CBL Soaps has the Jeris in production, but the SIR Fougere (clone of SIR Irisch Moos scent) and the Roasted Oatmeal Stout (Fresh baked oatmeal cookies!!!) are regular production soaps.

I have enjoyed the past two months so much that I have pretty much narrowed down my "forever" soaps to:
- Tabac
- CBL Tonsorial (vintage Williams clone line)or Premium (softer croap line)

I'm pretty sure I will make one-off other soap purchases down the road, but I would be perfectly content if CBL's stuff is all I was allowed to used going forward.

CBL Tonsorial verdict: Winner, Winner! Chicken Dinner!

Now I get to move back to my "use up my yucky stuff" plan of attack, which includes:
- modern Williams
- Pitralon
- another modern Williams

After that, there's nothing but goodness in my den (which includes Arko!), with 10+ years of great shaves to look forward to.

Yes @rockviper was indeed kind to cut those bad boys in half and over the holidays I shall finally press them into the Old Spice mugs and have at it. However, I now know what I WON'T be getting him for Christmas!!! LOL

My apologies for the "shave o the day" pic, but during this mornings shave I glanced down at the towel between the second and third pass and noticed it was an inadvertent "blue shave day" and I couldn't resist. Besides, this thread needs more pics!

The hole of doom in CSRW Winter is growing. A few days ago I set aside my large Brad Sears badger and dusted off the trusty old Badger & Bade Essential Boar w/ frosted blue handle. The B&B badger head logo wore off a while back, but the extraordinary boar knot still performs magnificently.

Going from a premium, near gel tipped, badger to a moderate sized boar I expected less than stellar results. Wrongo! The $20 boar absolutely held its own against the Brad Sears. While face feel wasn't nearly as luxurious with the boar as the badger, the quality of lather it whipped up was every bit as good, if not slightly better.

Pity the B&B Essential Boar is no longer available. It remains one of my favorites and while the explosion of inexpensive synthetics seem to have stolen the budget brush market from traditional boars, I've yet to find a synthetic knot I prefer to a good boar, except for traveling. Of course I tend to have old fashioned tastes so what do I know? :c9:

Cheers!

Discovered that if I stop shaving my head, grow a beard and find that I can get a one minute SAS on nech with a post shower dry shave, then my usage of soap goes to zero. Might well be 3017 before I finish this one soap at this rate.
This lackadaisical approach will not stand!
