What's new

you gotta try this noxzema routine. just once atleast

i remember there being a discussion about using noxzema as a pre shave ive always had some to wash my face with or put on after a bad sunburn so today i tried it as a preshave. took a hotshower left my face wet put on a thin layer of noxzema lathered up slick as can be so after each pass i rinsed with warm/hot water put a layer of noxzema on so 3 times and it was magnificent my face barely got red without it but there was no redness at all and i didnt have to stretch my skin it just made the hair so easy to cut try it let me know what you think.

this is random but aqua velvas awesome!

Keep that empty Noxema container and put it to good use! When the Noxema that serves our household is gone I plan on cutting a slot in the cover with an Exacto knife and using it as a used razor blade bank. It's a nice size, not too big and it will hold a ton of used blades. If you're so inclined, you could soak off the labels and decorate it however you see fit. (Maybe like a barber pole.)

no i apply nozxema than cream then shave then rinse and do it again and again which is 3 passes 3 pass shave

so you're using noxema as a lather?

If I'm understanding it correctly, he's getting his face wet, putting a thin layer of Noxema on his face and then lathering on top of that with shaving cream. On the 2nd and 3rd pass, he repeats the procedure.

Proraso Pre/Post Shave is very similar to Noxzema in terms of scent and soothing effect. These products, along with Aqua Velva, are classics for sure.

Can you put up a picture or link to the product? I've heard a lot about noxema but know they have a lot of products. Thanks.

so,, if there is a layer of noxzema covering the face (even a thin layer) whats the purpose of adding a layer of cream over the top of that? are they being mixed together by the brush on your face?

the noxzema itself is not as good at protecting my skin my be different for you

The Noxema contains eucalyptus oil. My guess is that the eucalyptus oil combined with the shaving cream is what's giving the desired effect.

I wonder if the classic era Noxzema had the Eucalyptus Oil added? That doesn't sound familiar. Occasional use of the regular cream was something I tried when I had complexion problems in my early teens, and in my middle teens, I used Noxzema's shave cream in a jar or tube, although I cannot recall if it lathered up or not. In my twenties, I know I used their shave foam in the can some, when I couldn't replace my Barbasol immediately. (This time / date reference is from the early fifties into the 1960s.)

I recently used M1 Shave Cream as a pre-shave under VDH, and got a slight improvement (the M1 has the Eucalyptus Oil), and when used that way together, Burts Bees cream and Colgate Mug Soap were better combined, by a great deal, than when used alone. I haven't gone as far as rinsing between passes and re-applying, myself.

A guy I knew in the Marine Corps only ever shaved with Noxema and swore by it. I may have to give the Noxema/shaving cream combo a try.

Years ago Noxema also made an excellent shaving cream. When I first started shaving, that was my favorite shaving cream and it was available in most drug stores in NYC. It came in a blue and white tube and later came in a red and white tube. It was heavy on menthol and worked great.

My step dad used Noxzema brushless shave cream for many years. I think they discontinued it 8-10 years ago

True but Walmart generic noxzema is much cheaper and the tub is bigger than the Proraso, guess which one I use:tongue_sm
