What's new

WOW, this Geo F. Trumper's Sandalwood cream is great

I've been shaving with Col Conk Bay Rum Soap, bowl lathered, for about 3 weeks. It's OK, but nothing great. It has always felt a little thin and didn't seem to lubricate as good as the Barbasol canned product I used previously.

Recently I purchased a Simpson Colonel and Muhle R89 with Astra blades. The store I purchased these from sent me a small sample of Geo F. Trumper's Sandlawood Cream. This stuff is really great. It lathers up extremely easy, plush and thick. It also has very good lubrication qualities.

The sample was in a tube. Can I expect the same results from a tub version instead of tube version of this product?

Are there any other creams or maybe soaps that would preform similarly or maybe even better than the Trumper?

My favotite creams are (in order of preference)

Penhaligon's Blenheim Bouquet cream
Truefitt & Hill (any of them but scent preference for me is: Grafton, 1805, Trafalgar)
Trumpers coconut oil cream

After these they all sort to muddle up.

As far as I am aware there are no canned versions of Trumper creams. Any of the good English creams are excellent- Trumpers, Truefitt and Hill, Taylor of Old Bond Street. Check out the reviews section at the top of this forum page to get an idea of what is out there. Hope this is helpful

Sorry, I meant tub or container version instead of tubed version. I shouldn't have said canned, that tends to make others think of an aerosol product.

My reply was not meant to be a correction or reprimand of any kind. My apologies if it seemed that way to you

I've gone through the Trumpers sample pack, sadly they were out of Sandalwood at the time I got it. Excellent product all around...

You should be definitely capable of replicating your pleasant experience with a full tub versus the sample.

I really want to try some (or all :glare:) of the GFT creams. Does GFT offer a sample pack or just the single, small tubes? And, if so, where could I find the sample pack?

I am just finishing up the GFT sample pack and wow do you get a lot of stuff. Lot's of cologne's, 6 or 7 creams two different skin foods, and a couple of body washes. I like the Spanish leather cream the best followed by limes. Wish the Spanish leather came in a tub instead of just a travel size tube...

I am not sure what size the single small tubes you are referring to are.

The following website, IMHO a great place to do business with, is where my sample came from. There are many small sample tubes available there. Just scroll down to the Geo T area.

You can expect the same performance from a tub as well as a tube.

Not everyone shares the same opinion as me, but I consider Trumper's creams to be top tier. I would say you can only find other creams and soaps that match the performance of Trumper's, but nothing beats it. Again, just my opinion on the topic. To name a few: QCS creams, Palmolive Shave sticks, MWF, and almost anything RazoRock.

My nose really likes Trumper's Sandalwood. I pick up yummy cinnamon and vanilla scents and it reminds me of Horchata! :biggrin1:

I love my Taylor of Old Bond Street Sandalwood cream. It may smell entirely different from the Trumpers cream you just used but it shaves great. It did take me a few shaves with it (probably close to two weeks using it) to really nail down the water content I needed. Also, I primarily face lather if that is relevant.

Trumper's Sandalwood cream is still my gold standard as far as being slippery goes.
I test slippiriness after having made a pass and rinsed my face with warm water.
While others wash off, Trumper's remains slippery enough to easily do another pass without re-applying lather.

Creams closest to Trumpers using this criterion include AOS cream and Crabtree& Evelyn.

I think that I want to try the Lime Trumpers. Sandalwood was my first shave cream that I purchased in a tub and I am still using it. I love it. It's my gold standard.
