Wooden scales

The harder the wood, the less mass required for structural integrity. I've only had one razor with wooden scales, a Ralf Aust in African Blackwood, and it wasn't bulky at all.

Thanks. Bubinga seems to be a dense wood. So I can hope. I suppose I’ll find out in a few weeks when I have it in hand.

I have a custom made Colling SR with bubinga timber scales. In fact, now that you mention them, I will shave with it this morning. Thank you for relieving the stress of me having to decide on which razor to choose today 😊.

I didn't specify the thickness of the scales. It came with a scale thickness of about 2.5mm on each side. I do not consider them "bulky". They are reasonably stiff for their thickness and not flimsy.

2.5mm seems to be bigger than typical acrylic or celluloid scales. Well, I suppose I just have to wait and see how it feels in hand.

I don't think you will be disappointed. If you are, I'll take it off your hands for a reasonable price 😁.

Thicker material can be shaped well and not 'feel' bulky, but those scales look kind of wide at the pivot.

I don’t make crude looking “timber” scales but these wood ones aren’t bad by comparison.
And they can easily be made as thin as you like. These are fuller only because I was adding in extra details. Could have been as thin as plastic. No big deal.
