What's new

Wish me luck. I'm trying the Kampfe Brothers Star tomorrow morning.

It arrived in the post earlier in the week. It was in great condition and I just gave it a little bit of a polish. I fitted it with a GEM single edged blade this afternoon and the blade seems to sit nice and straight and is held firmly in place so it's all systems go. In about 8-9 hours time I'll pick up a little piece of history, a genuine antique, give a caress in the fingers and see if it can still perform the function for which it was made.

Well that was an interesting experience. For most of the shave the blade felt it was at the wrong angle. It didn't feel like a razor, more like a paint scraper. It did a terrible job on my neck but quite a good job on my cheeks and chin.
I'll certainly give it more shaves in the coming weeks to see if I can get a better result.

With most single edge razors, the angle is that the blade head is just lifted up off the skin. In other words, the handle should not be pointing straight up and down. However, I don't own a lather catcher.
