Why you don't want to be stopped by Russian highway police

I was once arrested on the red square a year after the fall of U.S.S.R. for a vendor trying to sell me an original government flag.
I spent about two hours at the police station but all they wanted was for me to positively identify the guy trying to sell me the flag - which I refused to do.
In the end they drove me to the train station.
Oh Russia, fond memories of that visit. Mostly the vodka :)

It reminds me of one of the jokes Reagan cracked about the USSR:
Another curfew is supposed to be set after 9 PM. Two soviet soldiers are standing near a roadblock. It's 8:30. A man runs pass them, and one of the soldiers raises his gun and shoots him. The other ones says: "Why did you shoot him, it's not 9 yet?!". The first one says: "Ah, I know this guy, I know where he lives. He never would of made it in time".
