Why were hydro-magics phased out?

I'm wondering why the pretty genius hydro-magic lever that was put on the injectors in the 50's was phased out. Was it because they malfunctioned more often or was it because they were costly to manufacture? Any evidence for why the change back to regular solid injector heads was made?

I'm asking because I bought a hydro-magic and when I close the lever, sometimes the blade doesn't fit right. It's really no big deal, I can just reopen it and close it and it'll usually fit back fine. I'm just not sure if it's unusual that this happens to mine or if this was a common issue.

I just received my first Hydromagic, never having used one even back in the 60's. It is pretty nice, aggressive and I like the open & flush feature. But mine also is a bit "fiddly" when closing back up ..

My guess would be that they couldn't recoup the added manufacturing costs in pricing, and didn't gain enough volume to offset ..

When I first used my Hydro Magic, I had to push on the safety bar to get it to click fully into place. After working the mechanism back and forth a number of times, it started working properly. I could only guess why Schick abandoned the idea, but it's a nice feature.
