Why is the soap on 'risers' in the mugs...???

So,, I just got my first dish of Tabac,, and I'm wondering why the soap is elevated... Also,, after looking at Old Spice mugs on e-bay,,, they appear to have the same set-up... It seems to me that having that big gap under the puck will just trap water and lather in a difficult-to-drain area...

So,, why is the soap elevated...??? Is there a real purpose,,, or is it to trick us into thinking there's a lot more soap in the mug than there actually is...????

plus it also helps hold the puck securely (as its pressed onto the fins a little)

They come that way, but I always wet the interior of the mug and press the soap down so the "risers" act as more solid anchors to the bottom of the puck.

The risers allow for some air around the puck, so the soap can dry faster without sitting in a puddle of water at the bottom of the bowl.

to help prevent a nasty waterlogged bottom (not a good thing)

My aunt had a nasty waterlogged bottom, it was -- oh, you're talking about something else, nevermind.

Does this mean that if I get a shaving soap that has an elevated ring around the edge, I should put that side down, or is the bottom side typically concave?
