What's new

Why is it called a "safety razor"?

I'll tell you why--because people like me can reach blindly into a shelf first thing in the morning, hit the blade with their finger and still walk away without any blood dripping.

Because the original razors were straight razors.

The "safety" part is the now enclosed blade.

Know what razor isn't a safety razor? Merkur Futur. About a month ago I tried adjusting it while my hands and the razor was slippery, believing that it wouldn't slip...I was wrong. My finger has lots of shiny new skin in the spot where the futur decided I shouldn't have skin anymore. Been over a month and it's just about healed now.

MY FAVORITE but, at least 2 or 3 times a month I'll be shaving along and set it down somewhere a little to hard and guess what!!!:w00t: I guess I'll never learn:001_smile

They originally wanted to call it William F Buckley, but that name was taken, so they called it Safety Razor.
