Why are Only the Clueless Selected to Write These Sorts of Things?

I know, let's propose products so ridiculously expensive that 90% of all people can't afford them (see #2 and #6). Don't get me wrong, some of the products listed are very good, but the shaving-related hardware is a joke.

Some of the best shaving products in the world are British. There's no mention of the 3 greatest British brush brands or the best British shaving soaps and creams. They mention Proraso, but don't note that it's to be used with a brush.

Their next article will probably be about how small British businesses are struggling in today's economy. Nice work, eh?

Looks like Harrods is giving Art of Shaving a run for their money in the category of ridiculously overpriced shaving gear.

I think GQ once ran an article about shaving that listed a $90 synthetic brush and a shaving set, with a Mach3 handle, for several hundred dollars. I wrote an angry letter about how ridiculous that was, but felt like I was yelling into the wind.

I have never understood the purpose of buying a $90 or more handle to put cartidge razor blades on. Why? They don't do anything to improve your shave. You're just as well using the stick they give you. Why spend that mony on a stupid shaving stick when you could buy a sweet brush or three tubs of T&H shaving cream.

I think my Tweezerman and Flare Tip look a LOT more stylish than #6!

They're renowned for over-priced EVERYTHING!

i really wanted to try some frederic malle cologne though! hommage razor is a little dumb, but i didn't think the list was that bad.

You're right. Most of the list wasn't bad.

The shaving hardware and lack of quality complimentary software was my gripe. I don't cotton to the items that were listed purely for snob appeal, with scant regard to higher quality, affordable products (i.e., razors, brushes and shaving soaps/creams that those in the know actually use).

I think you put your finger on it right there.... They're clueless. If you think about I'll think you'll agree that traditional DE,and straight razor wet shaving is a niche market. This kind of article is aimed at the upscale type with more money than good sense :p

This has to be France's idea of joke

Geranium Pour Monsieur
Geranium is an odd plant to base a fragrance on because a geranium flower doesn?t actually smell of anything. However, Frédéric Malle possesses a subtle powdery fragrance that is light and easy to wear.

How much £75

Translation: We gave it a fancy name and diluted some Clubman by Pinaud so it has a very light powdery scent and can charge a premium! Cha-Ching!

Part of the allure of these products is knowing that you spent (and can afford) a ridiculous amount of $$$ for the smug satisfaction...

I have no problem with folks spending good money on truly well made products, but no cart handle is worth 140 quid (over $225).

Most of the time these kind of articles are written by those who equate more expensive and designer label with better.

That said, there are some good suggestions in there too. Glad to see Proraso made the list.

That mach 3 handle is shocking. :scared:

That prada soap (#14) is pretty stupid.....I cannot imagine paying about AUD$50 for a bar of soap.
Well, you are paying $48 for the name and logo. Seems fair. Altho a soap that smells like eyeballs seems a bit odd. I quote:

"The smell of this soap comes primarily from iris"

Can't speak on the Geranium Pour Monsieur but he had some well reviewed minimalist frags. Can't lie though, all of them would definitely leave my wallet lighter.
