What's new

Which one of you guys got this?

Don't forget that B&B members are merely the tip of the iceberg. There are collectors who use none of the razors they buy, there are folks who use classic razors and value them, but aren't computer savvy, or internet savvy, or maybe just not very socially connected. Those of us who gather here value the results we're getting, as well as the hardware we collect, and we value the social exchanges we can undertake in here.

I've found that I'm almost always bidding against another member when it comes to the collectible end of the spectrum.
Probably not so much on the user grade stuff.

I was watching that one, too, but I ended up deciding that the splits in the case were too much for me. It's not a bad pickup for whoever got it, but for a set like that one I'd rather pay more for a nicer one. Of course, it's a matter of finding a nicer one...

Hmm. Somebody did get a great deal on that set. The rarity of that model, regardless of splits, make this set worth at least $70 I think.

Wow i havent seen a chip set in a Very Long Time. Not bad for that price but not a Collectors Piece, more of a user grade, but still all and all its a Rare Set Period.

Not me..I'm not a collector, plus i already tried these out before, they are great shavers.

I'm assuming it's not a real fatboy because I've seen some that go for over $100?

I wasn't the winner I was out bidden but I did see one for $35 BIN.

I agree--you're really paying for the case here and not the razor. The case isn't in the best shape and splits hurt the price, but you don't see these very often. I'm surprised that it didn't go for at least $100.

Looking at that one I am also surprised that it didn't go for at least $70 . . . it looks like the winner placed a bid for the highest amount he was willing to pay. Nobody else outbid him.

That's a good strategy to keep from overpaying on an item . . . and when you win one, it can be at quite a discount if other bidders haven't jumped in! The winner may have bid $64, or he may have bid $100 . . . we'll never know.

No need to be bummed, cwlsmith . . . your max price was $63, and you sniped in with only seconds left. Someone else was willing to pay more, and his bid was placed about eight seconds before yours. You win some, lose some, but one thing's for sure . . . there's still more razors to be found!

The razor in the Chippendale set actually is unique -- albeit only marginally so. The underside of the guard plate has the same engine-turned pinstriping that the case lid and blade case have on them:

Honestly, I need to stop thinking about this or I'll start kicking myself for not at least putting in a bid.

Gee, you're right; I missed that completely. I have a gold Aristocrat like this in the ivory case, so I was basing it off of that. And that's why I bought mine--because of the case.
