What's new

Which one?

So, I've posted a couple threads mulling over some stainless razors I'm considering. I've been looking at the EJ 3on6, Muhle Rocca, Timeless SS.95, and a Rex Envoy and Ambassador. I've been shaving with a Merkur Futur exclusively for the last 15 years, and really like the versatility of an adjustable, so I was thinking of sticking with an adjustable. I thought I was ready to pull the trigger on the Rex Ambassador, but man that Timeless in SS beckons me. It may not be an adjustable, but with a .95 head, I’m thinking it’ll be plenty, and with the 100mm handle, it pretty much will have the same heft as my Futur, which is a plus for me as I enjoy that weighty razor. The Timeless in SS with two base plates, one scalloped, one open comb, and outfitted the way I’d like is only about $30 less than the Ambassador. About $110 less if I forego the extra base plate. I’m torn on which one to get.

And by the way, what are your guys thoughts on the open comb base plate? I have a beard or goatee part of the year, and go bare faced part of the year as well. I figured the open comb would be better at tackling the long facial hair since the timeless isn’t an adjustable, and I’d use the scalloped or solid baseplate for all my other shaving needs. Any thoughts on that?

I know the easy answer is get both, but I can only afford to spend that kind of coin on one razor right now, and am hoping for some sales coming up for Father’s Day.

My fellow enablers, Timeless or Rex Ambassador, which would you get?

I have never tried a Timeless but I have many other vintage and modern razors. I have the Rex Ambassador. Bought it a little over 2 years ago when a coupon showed up in my email. For me, it is like the Rex was custom made just for me. Everyone's face is different so what works for me may not for you. I highly recommend the Rex, it can go from mild to almost wild by adjusting the gap. If you want something with an open comb for use when the beard is longer, I would recommend the Pearl Flexi OC. The Flexi OC is very comfortable and also very efficient, it is also adjustable (added bonus). Just my two cents. Good luck with your quest.

I’d go with the Timeless 100 times out of 100. If you hate it, you can return it within 30 days for a refund. Can’t do that with a Rex.

Beyond that, the Timeless is my favorite razor by far. It’s so smooth. I only use the OC versions regardless of growth. Even if I shave within 24 hours of my previous shave, I still use the OC Timeless. It works that well and is very forgiving. The scalloped top cap pairs very well with the OC base plate.

Consider going with a dual comb base plate to save a bit of money. Get one side scalloped and the other OC. That way you get to try both while only having to purchase one base plate.

I went with the Timeless. It’s a nice razor. The Blackbird is another popular one. I actually prefer the Blackland. Both have a 30 day trial period. You can buy both and keep your favorite.

I started with the Futur. I’d say both of the above are significantly better razors.

Two Timeless razors here and I love them, the Titanium with the 0.68 and the Crown handle is my favorite razor. The company is very fast responding and shipping is superfast!! Highly recommend them!!

Great recommendations and rationale!

Well, I did it. I just placed an order with Timeless.

SS matte finish, open comb with .95mm blade gap, scalloped cap, and 100mm "plaid" handle. Added a cleaing brush and 5 pack of spare delrin washers for good measure. With a $20 father's day discount, total is $240 shipped. Can't wait to get my face on it!

Congratulations!

Delrin is a bit more timeless than nylon in terms of mechanical wear, guess that's why they don't use nylon.

Telling people to save money by ordering washers elsewhere after paying over 200 bucks for the razor also seems a bit pointless. 😎

Just wanted to add that I received an email the other day showing a $24 refund from Timeless. Not sure why, but they discounted my order, so my cost is now $216 instead of $240. Not sure why, but some places give you a discount when you are purchasing from them for the first time, so I'm thinking maybe they stacked that with the Father's Day discount? Whatever the case, that's really cool. Just wanted to give them a shoutout on here. It was very kind of them to do that.
