What's new

Which AD?

Which is your worst AD? Or which AD do you see yourself falling for?

Since wet shaving I've never been too bothered about acquiring new razors or brushes but it's the creams I can't help but buy. Since wetshaving for just over 2 months now I have 6 creams/soaps and plan to get a few more I suppose it's all about the choices of scent for me. I'm contemplating getting Tabac but I'm rather put off by the prospect of the tobacco smell. I also have The Mitchell wool fat and Cella in my sights too

Good news for you; Tabac doesn't smell like tobacco so just go ahead.

Take care of buying Cella in large amounts; good stuff but without preservatives it goes rancid pretty fast.

Oh, and btw my worst AD would be the one concerning razor blades...

For a while, it was razors. I've pretty much settled on the razors I want to keep and I'm slowly selling off the rest, so now I seem to be buying soaps...I think I've got six now, and two more on the way...

I've gone through some and come out the other side slightly lighter in the wallet but not injured.

I'm very happy with what I use now and don't see it changing that much (if at all) for the foreseeable.

For now I'm pretty content with my razor and brush, so I don't think acquiring more of either of these will get out of hand. But resisting soaps and aftershaves is the hardest. I've got three soaps (TOBS Lavendar and Sandalwood; Trumper's Rose) and four aftershaves (TOBS Eton, Mr Taylor, and Shaving Soap; Clubman Pinnaud). I know for some this is mild, but the collection continues to grow...I've also got a sampler pack of Trumper's colognes and fear another AD could be on the verge as I enjoy so many of them.

As far as money spent, I think it's a tie between my Gillette Razor AD and my shaving soap AD.

Go ahead and get the Tabac. It smells nothing like tobacco. Maybe one of our German friends can explain Tabac's name, but I believe the similarity between the name of the soap and the cancer sticks is pure coincidence.

Since starting DE shaving in Feb, I have suffered from all of the ADs.

I am currently experiencing a bad case of blade AD. I recently broke the 2000 barrier. I am no longer in denial; I belive that's the first step to recovery.

I see myself getting SSAD/SCAD, but that's about it. I might pick up a few razors (as I found out last night), but once I find a favorite I don't see myself hanging on to more than one, maybe two. Same goes for blades; I plan on finding a favorite and buying those in bulk. I'll probably keep a handful of others around to try every now and then as I progress, but I don't see any reason to stock up on more than one type.

Go ahead and pick up the Tabac if you have SSAD and are curious. It seems to be a love-it-or-hate-it thing, but fortunately there are plenty who love it. If you're one of those who don't, it probably would sell within a day on the BST.

Aftershave. Definitely.

Soap, maybe, but that's brush on/shave off, a question of lather ... aftershave is a little more long-term, because of the scent (esp. if you don't wear cologne). You want it to work, sure, but beyond that it's about what you want to smell like, and for how long.

A man needs options, y'know?

For me its creams and balms/aftershaves. It's my weakness. It's like when I'm in a store or shopping online I am reminded of the scene in Return Of The Jedi where the Emperor is tempting Luke Skywalker to reach for his lightsaber and asks him, "You want this,...dont you?" Well I get that same temptation in the store. Very weakening to me :tongue_sm

Shaving Brushes, without question. Between the two-banded Simpsons, Rooney Heritages with exquisite handles and amazing Super hair, Savile Rows and (implied) luxury of Plissons, it's a serious struggle to not hit the "Place Order" button at Vintage Blades.

straight razors, though my brush AD has flared up recently with 2 more brushes... and the LE is coming up too, of course

I bought 55 razors today.

55.

No lie.

55.

Shoot me now.

Please.

:eek6:

I almost feel stupid asking what you plan to do with all of them.

What else, I'm going to shave!!

Seriously, I'll keep some, I'll PIF some and I'll sell some.

It's not as bad as I make it sound. I bought 4 of the razors at one antique mall and ran into a guy at another antique mall who had a box of 51 razors in different shapes, sizes and flavors.

I've gone in several directions since I started. Only 2 colognes, 2 brushes, 3 cremes, 4 soaps, 8 aftershaves... but lately I've got RAD. BAD. (Maybe not quite as bad as some though  ). Got my first DE delivered last week (new Merkur). Now I've got 2 vintages I've cleaned up, with 7 more inbound for this week (5 Gillettes, a Gem and a Star). And I'm still looking...

Edit to add... bought a 30's Aristocrat and a 40's Aristocrat today... :frown: (I'm doomed...).

I'd have to say soaps and after shaves. In the past month or so I've bought Trumpers coconut soap, Tabac soap, DR Harris Almond shave stick and L'Occitane Cade soap. And also AV, Pinaud Clubman and Proraso AS. I have one razor on the way, a Valobra shave stick and some Dominica Bay rum AS. I'm going to take a breather for a while.....at least that is the plan.

As far as I know Tabac means tabacco but I love the smell. You are going to have to buy it some day...give in now. It really is that good of a soap...it pretty much comes down to if you like the smell of it. If by chance you don't there is Irisch Moos equally good different smell...let the AD continue. The AD I'm trying to resist the most is the shaving brush. Once the AD sets it's hooks in you, there is no telling what could happen to my bank account.
