Where can I buy a decent DE in South Africa?

Please will a South African member here advise me where I can buy a DE other than the cheap "Lion" brand with the plastic handle. I want to walk into a shop and buy one, not order on line. I am even prepared to buy a second hand one. Any advice will be helpful.

Have you tried calling The Old'e English Shaving Shop in Cape Town?
6252 V&A Waterfront, Cape Town, South Africa TEL: +27 21 4188068
(Granted, it's probably a thousand miles away from Durban, but they may be able to help you find something more local.)
Hope it helps,
-- Chet

PS -- Almost forgot. Welcome to B&B!

You can't buy a decent DE in a store in most of Europe and North America, for that matter. This is a niche hobby, and it's becoming more and more an online-only hobby.

According to http://www.muehle-shaving.com/company/where_to_buy there are two Mühle distributors in SA. Phone and see if either knows of anything close to you.

Very old thread, but Mantality.co.za is probably the best bet - they offer free delivery on orders over R500. They have Muhle and Bluebeard products available.

Indeed ... the only DE razors I see in European stores are the plastic Wilkinson Swords, and Parker and Timor razors. Sometimes a Gillette 7 O'Clock, which is a low cost plastic razor as well. Large drugstore chains typically sell the plastic Wilkinson Sword only.

For higher quality razors, you need to shop online, or go to a specialty store. I think the situation in South Africa will be no different.

I do see a viable gap in the SA Market for this "Hobby". There are very few Barbers in SA that offer wet shaves as part of their usual routine, and when you do sit down in the big chair, the gent delivering your whisker cut is not always the best.

With this said a proper barber shop with a retail section offering all the big names in razors and supporting kit would do well in JHB.
