What's new

What's your favorite hoodie?

It's time to pull out the hoodies here. What's your favorite?

My favorite is probably my simplest and cheapest. The Gildan Men's Heavy Blend 50/50 pull over. I've got a larger head and it took a little while the collar to stretch out, but it did and it now goes on and off easy. It's great for a walk in the low 40s with just a t shirt underneath. I like the large pocket in the front that allows you to put both hands together to help warm each other and the extra thick hood keeps my head warm. Throw a decent flannel under it and you're good for 30 or so. It'll keep you dry in a light drizzle for a while too. The big drawback though is the fact that it is a pull over. You can't open up if you get too hot and there's no graceful way to remove it in public. Mine is several years old and hopefully they are still made the same.

My second would be the Dickies thermal lined full zip hoodies. I've got a large tall and an XL tall. The large is great for working outside in the high 20s for me. You can zip and unzip to help regulate temperature. I have the XL tall for an outer layer on top of a jacket for when it's really cold or windy. Dickies went from a 3 panel hood to a 2 panel hood, so the older ones fit and look better. For some reason their website is only showing white and don't have the tall sizes listed. Hopefully that changes soon.

I've got others including a heated Milwaukee, but those two are the ones I usually grab. I also really like the Ridgecut flannels from Tractor Supply.

All of my hoodies are zip front. Easily, my favorite one is from Uniqlo. Extremely well made and not a giant lint maker like most of them. Hopefully this link is going to the latest version. I have two, a light-gray one that is two or three years old and an olive one that's about a month old. Retail is $49.90, but coupons and specials tend to be fairly common.

The kinda pricey made-in-Los Angeles 10-year hoodie from Huckberry is probably my second favorite. it's heavier than the Uniqlo, and extremely warm. it also has a nice inside pocket, but I don't think it fits quite as well as the Uniqlo. Also have decent ones from Lacoste—it's kinda "dressy" for a black hoodie—and a cheap ($20-ish) light-gray one from Muji that's awesome when you don't want to mess up your favorite one.

My Navy blue Carhartt zip front, with worn cuffs and a few small tears from years of tromping around the woods cutting firewood.

Not strictly speaking a true hoodie, having no full zip front, I love my hooded Champion quarter zip. I wear it every morning when I get up, along with its matching navy) sweat pants.

I have a hemp hoodie I bought in Maui over 20 years ago. Zip front, ultra soft and very durable, cloth just looks great still. I thought it was an expensive indulgence at the time, but it has worn beautifully.

Mine is probably one I purchased at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2013. It was one of those cold, windy days at the 500, and I did NOT come prepared for that. Especially since my seats were at the top of the grandstand that year. I had to go to 3 different kiosks to find anything long sleeved. Thankfully it ended up being good quality, warm, and made watching Kanaan win his 500 something I could enjoy rather than something I suffered through.

Aclima Merino wool "Warm Wool" hood sweater w zip. I only wear wool during winter, and this piece is super versatile. I can use it both directly on my skin, or as a mid layer sweater, it has built in balaclava that can also be converted into a neck warmer, or the neck can be zipped right open for ventilation more like a polo shirt. Aclima brand ain't cheap, but it's one of the best brands I know for Merino wool garments, super quality, so well designed.

My favorite hoodie was a navy blue one with a full-length zipper and no writing. About $130. I wore it out until it had holes. I can't find exact photos, but these are similar:

The Filson Mackinaw Wool Anorak. I own a lot of Filson gear, and this is unquestionably their best product. Just don't look at the price tag, or try to find one in stock. They're almost always sold out and for good reason.

I bought my first TiVo as soon as they came out in 1999, and very soon after that I ordered a hoodie from their website. It has a giant TiVo logo on the back. I have a ton of hoodies, and I haven't used a TiVo in years, but that TiVo hoodie is still my favorite by a mile. Over the years I've bought any number of hoodies that look like exactly the same thing, because at this point the TiVo one is looking pretty ratty and desperately needs to be retired, but none that I can find fit quite as well or feel quite as comfy.

Anyone ever try or know anyone that has the Bearskin Hoodie 4.0? It keeps coming up as an advert on youtube. They also have an optional rain jacket attachment that zips over it

Seeing how much annoying their ads are on youtube, this is one that I will stir away from as I much as I could. Feels like all Youtube ads are for crap product being over glorified. And don't get me started with that ******* and is beard loving his wife who bought him cooking knife.

I know exactly who you are talking about. He doesn’t look like he is kind of guy that needs a knife, but instead might want to tear his animal flesh apart with his bear hands

I've got a few Lululemon hoodies from my yoga days that 10-12 years old and still holding up, but a little tight due to mid-50's paunch.

On a similar note, Al’s Anorak from Weatherwool is another contender if one has deep pockets - just under $700 - a few different wool colors' Lynx is my favorite, but like most of their stuff, rarely in stock. All made in the US.

LOL. It's sad that I know exactly what and who you're talking about. I share your feelings.
