What's new

when it rains it pours.. my dog got mauled

I have a french poodle. She got mauled by my neighbor's dog.. a huge dog. She is undergoing surgery today for collapsed lungs and boken ribs. sigh... this month has been nothing but dark clouds on my horizon.

damn. sorry to hear about your dog. I hope she has a speedy recovery.

btw, I hope your neighbors will do the right thing and foot the bill.

Is the neighbor going to help with the bills? Did you get the police involved? I do hope you dog recovers. Dogs are good people when they're the right dog.

She is recovering atm and very responsive. I'm just glad she is still with us. No the police was not involved. everything happened so quick and we had to take her to emergency vet hospital in the next town. It was either put her down or get her well again. I happened to have a rainy day fund so that's where it went. I would never choose money over her. She is a very loving dog. She's my baby girl so to speak. The neighbors asked how she was doing. I'll leave it to them to do the right thing. Like I said I am just glad she is still with us.

What a terrible feeling! We had this happen on the 4th of July about 5 or 6 years ago... luckily ours survived too. From then on we started carrying a heavy walking stick that is shaped kind of like a club or an old wooden golf 'driver'. Never have had to use it but there are a couple of mean dogs where we walk and I am ALWAYS on the lookout. I hope she recovers quickly and without issue.

My parents have a small dog, too! I also wish you and your dog the best. I hope she recovers fully and quickly! Check online for any helpful hints on how to socialize her after the recovery; some dogs can become easily shaken and even aggressive themselves.

The dog that mauled her concerns me, because if it can do that to a smaller dog it could just as easily have been a child.

If you do decide to get the police involved, remember that; it isn't just about what happened to you dog anymore. What if that dog attacked a toddler a few months down the road? Scary.

Again I wish you all the best.

I'm sorry, I hope she recovers quickly for the sake of both of you. A little spoiling with attention will do wonders for her recovery. I had this same thing happen to my dog at the dog park a few months ago. The lady whose dog got mine took no responsibility and took off while I was attending to my dog. Irresponsible pet owners infuriate me!

I have had several dogs, and I feel for you (luckily mine were big and ugly enough to look after themselves...), but I'd have been devastated if this had happened, needless to say twere it me, my shotgun would be being loaded at this very second.... :-(

Hope your dog gets well soon.... I hope they foot the bills and have the dog put down.... how long before it's a child?

Tom

So sorry to hear this news. We love all creatures great and small at our house and they are just as much a part of my family as are my children. Lets get the important things taken care of first get her back home where she belongs the rest will follow. On saturday morning my Airdale bit right through my Dobermans lip. didn't see it happen but knew about it when a few hours later his entire head was swollen like a melon! Massive dose of pain killers and antibiotics for him.
Please keep us informed wishing you all a speedy recovery.

+1. for me it's about the owners of the other dog taking responsibility and being held accountable for the actions of their pet. if they knew their dog was predisposed to violent attacks against other dogs then they should have their dog put down. I know that sounds drastic but as NightLad pointed out, this animal could be a potential threat to the kids in the neighborhood. if a neighbor's dog attacked and mauled my dog in the same way I can guarantee the police and animal control would be involved and I would expect compensation. Omnichron, i'm glad you're able to keep a level head about the whole thing but expecting your neighbors to do the right thing without saying anything might not be in your best interest
