What's new

What was your first car? Would you ever want another one?

My first car was a 1963 Mercury Marauder, and no, I wouldn't want another one.
I couldn't afford to keep gas in it nowadays.

But I'd love to have my 1978 Ford Fiesta back. Even with a gas tank that held only 10 gallons, I could drive forever. And that beast was nimble! It was the next best thing to a motorcycle in traffic. Wasn't so good for long road trips, though.

1983 Ford Escort. A whole 1.3l engine (what's that, 80cui?) The only way it would start was if you sprayed alcohol into the air intake. I had it for six months, before I wondered what the funny noise was. Seems that someone had welded some bits over damaged parts of the chassis so it looked OK, but the chassis was split totally.

Frankly, these days, I'd rather walk barefoot through broken glass than own another. The only car I really miss was my 1997 Jag XJ6.

First vehicle I bought was a 1966 VW Kombi camper. Not much for power, or anything else for that matter, but it sure was fun. It had an ice box you had to use ice in to keep anything cold, a collapsable table and fold out bed, and a pop top. Sure had lots of fun, and yes would have another.

1972 Pontiac Lemans. .030 over 400 CID, Eldelbrock hi-rise, 750 AFB, Crane Fireball cam, ported heads, headers. etc. V-8 muscle makes me smile. Was my Daily driver. Never again as a daily, but I'd like it for the weekends!

My first car was a 1979 Chevy Elcamino SS with a small block 400, th400 and 4.10 gears. I wish I could find it, I would buy it back in a second.

First real driver that I purchased was a 1978 GMC 1/2 ton 4 wheel drive pickup. My Grandfather bought it new. I purchased it in 1981 from my Grandmother after his death. I loved that truck. Ran it to about 120,000 and traded it for a new F-150. I knew the second owner, though he lived some distance away, and he treated it like I did. It returned to our area several years later and I had to watch it decline, since the last owner took no care of it at all. I really hated that. Sometimes wish I had bought it back, but not sure what I would have done with it.

I started doing roofing jobs when I was 14 so I could save some money for a used car. When I was 15 I bought a 1966 Ford Galaxie 500 with a 289 small block in it for $195.00 I had some great times in that car and drove it until the engine blew up when I was 17. My next car was a 1965 Chevelle with a 327 which I got for $300. I would love to have both of those cars now!

1989 Volvo 240 DL...Sure Id take another Volvo. If I was gonna spend that kind of money on a car id probably go BMW or Acura, but I think Volvos are decent made cars.

1988 Pontiac Grand Am coupe with sunroof. It was incredibly awesome for a first car for a 16 year old, and the only car my parents bought me. (I've had about 25 more since then)

Unfortunately I had a drug and alcohol problem back then and I totaled it within nine months.

I wouldn't want one again though. I'm a VW guy now.

1993 Toyota Corolla 1.3 16v, in a rather fetching shade of what I like to call Vintage Racing Crimson (it was faded on the roof...)

Came to me for the paupers sum of £600 with 165,000 miles on it and no service since 100k, left me at 240,000 miles with me having serviced it myself twice, changed tires twice and battery once. Was completely bulletproof. Hit a deer in it. Luckily was only going about 50kph, but the only thing it did was unclip the bumper. Deer also appeared fine. The bugger scarpered before I could get out of the car.

If I had to have another, I'd insist on the electric windows and A/C!

1973 Mercury Cougar with a 351 Cleveland. It ripped up many rear tires after I built the motor to Boss 351 specs, but wasn't the greatest car. Not bad, but I wouldn't seek out another.

My second car, on the other hand... A 1969 MGC GT in Tartan Red with a completely redone leather interior and knockoff spoked wheels and flawless body. Why I sold it, I'll never know, but I sold it for too little. Even with the Prince of Darkness electrical system, it was truly a man's sports car. I miss it.

My first car was a used 1981 Datsun 210. I wouldn't wish one on my first enemy. Thank goodness the speed limit was 55, because I doubt it could have done 70mph.

My first was a 1971 Ford Pinto, bought new in April of that year. It was fun for the 3 years I had it, but based on the safety reports that came out about it, I'd say no, not again. But for a first car, and being 22, it was fun. :thumbup1:

Quite a lot of "bang" for the buck on those old Pintos!

My first car was a '65 Oldsmobile Cutlass - 330 high compression V8 w/4BBL Carb . . . pinged like a son-of-a-gun on regular - had to have ethyl. (Hell, I wanted Ethyl too, but that's another story!) I couldn't afford to keep gas in it at 6MPG and .48 a gallon high-test. Would I want it back? Not at today's gas prices!!

I "upgraded" to a '65 Plymouth Barracuda - the old slant 6 was a lot easier on gas, and my girlfriend liked the 'Cuda's fold-down back seat better . . . :001_wub: I'd take the old girl back in a heartbeat . . .

1985 plymouth horizon. heck yeah. still looking for another one.
