What's new

What was your first car? Would you ever want another one?

My first car- 1981 Ford Thunderbird.

I would love to drive one again, just for old time's sake.... being a tall/large gentleman, it was the only car I have owned that I fit nice and comfy in. Plus it had a nice ride. Last winter I actually had a dream that I found my actual Thunderbird at a yard sale and I sat in it and was all nostalgic. I was sad when I woke up.

A week ago on Ebay I stumbled onto a 1982 T-bird that looked exactly like my old t-bird that had one owner; it was in mint shape with only 73k miles... and if I had the extra cash I think I would have totally picked it up! If it was anywhere nearby to where I live (It's in San Diego, I'm in MA) I would probably at least go and try to get a test drive out of it. Ah well. Seeing the pictures and such did send me right back to my youth though!

1968 Ford Custom. And yes I would drive it again. Mine was tan color, 2-door, manual transmission with "3 on the tree" (manual gear shifter on steering column- No "P-R-N-D-L"). Straight 6 cylinder.
Kind of like this:

My first car as a 1988 Ford Taurus... Really not easy to pick up chicks in it, especially since it was brown. :/ I might take a new version of the Taurus since it came out again though.

1967 Chevelle. I regretted selling it. Got another one. Had my kicks then sold it. Total, I've owned about 7 1960s muscle cars, including a couple real nice big blocks. No more money pits. There are a lot of classic vehicles right now. A mid-90s to mid-2000s Dodge Ram (a truck) can be just as much fun as a muscle car and has better reliability and utility and you don't have to pay a king's ransom and hunt for unobtainium parts.

1975 Austin Mini Cooper, 998cc. I'd love to own one again. British green with white racing stripes, right hand drive. Coolest car I've ever owned.

'56 Ford, turquoise color complete with baby moon hubcaps, glass packs and dice on the rearview mirror. I would like to own it today just as a collector's item.

When I was 14 years old my father took me aside and told me I had better get a job and start saving up for a car because he sure was not going to let me learn to drive on his Mercedes.

I worked for three years at various jobs. A pet store (washing and clipping dogs). In a hospital kitchen washing dishes then helping to prepare food. In Der Wienerschnitzel and pup and taco fast food joints.

I saved every penny.

Then when I was 17 I found the car I wanted and I had the cash to buy it.

My first car was a 1957 Jaguar XK-140-MC roadster (C type racing engine). Open cockpit (no side windows) and BIG wire wheels. It would do 140 mph without breaking a sweat.

Sure I would love to have another one of these but they now cost in the 6 figures so I don't think this will happen very soon

My first car was a 2003 Honda Accord EX. It had well over 125,000 miles on it and ran well without any issues, but then my sister wrecked it two years ago :glare:

My first car was a 1974 Nova. It was puke tan in color, had a plastic interior and a 351 engine that got me about 9 mpg. I gave it to my brother who hit a cow with it. I would never want another.

1968 Doge Charger, 383, Holly 4-bbl (manual choke) on top of an Elelbrock manifold. Four speed transmission that howled like a banchee because Mopar used helical gears for strength. It was green with a vinal top, and had half-moon wheel covers. Same car that the bad guys drove in Bullitt. I would love to find another '68, but I'm not a fan of the new Chargers.

My first car was a used 1984 Ford Escort that had once been red but had faded horribly to a dirty pinkish-grey. I traded a couple of handmade chairs (I used to be a furniture maker) for it, but later crashed it into a cliff after skidding off an icy road. I didn't get a scratch, and the insurance paid for a used 1981 Saab 900 Turbo, which was a terrific car (once we got a couple of small mechanical issues fixed) until it got stolen a couple of years later.

I shudder to think of owning another Escort, but I'd love to have another car that handled like the Saab.

first car was a 91 mitsu eclipse gs. got it for $50 from a police auction. would i own another one? maybe if it was a GSX.

My first car was a 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix.
I really liked that car. Brand new. Red.
But the price of gas just kept going up and I have a lead foot.
So before I got married I sold it for a Nissan Versa.

Yeah, you heard me, A Nissan Versa.
