What's new

What Frag were you wearing when you last got a compliment?

I have worn fragrances for many years. My girls (wife included) always say I smell good. Recently I switched colognes and EVERYWHERE I go I receive compliments, it's insane. I even thought maybe it wasn't so good I received an OH MY GOD you smell so good. Like at the grocery store, at the doctor's, at the chiropractor I receive compliments. Last time my doctor told me that when I left apparently all the nurses and such were asking who was that, he smelled great, and what was he wearing.
That is cool.

Even after all these years later, women still love the scent of Polo.

Recently it was Saponificio Varesino Desert Vetiver. Before that it was likewise Saponificio Varesino , but, Felce Aromatica a gas station clerk really liked it. I was mortified that she smelled me from that far away. I use less now.

I just used Floris Neroli Voyage for the first time. My darling wife, in her inimitable way, asked about it and said "I think the English are much better at making Italian colognes than the Italians are themselves... the English versions are so much more...'restrained...' Must be because they're Protestants."
She's always able to work a few insults into every compliment.

A female co-worker complimented me on my scent the other day. I was wearing Gier, one of my go-tos. My other half isn't fond of Gier and prefers my Cremo Bourbon and Oak cologne. I like to change it up once in a while.

What vintage? I liked it circa-1986, but the 2022 bottle I tried recently didn't seem much like that.

Yardley London — Gentleman Urbane

Pulled a stranger compliment . . . but . . . the masses seem to have a sweet tooth . . . sweeter than mine. Nice to get such a genuine compliment, but I think I'd be prouder if it came on say, Krizia Uomo or Paco Rabanne Pour Homme, Generation II.

Part of me wants to go spray on something challenging, dry, and manly to cleanse my soul of this sugar.

Saponoficio Varesino Felce Aromatica. A Gas Station cashier swooned over how great I smelled. This was circa 2019. That was the aftershave and not the EdP. Hasn’t happened since, and, I much prefer Desert Vetiver of which I have the whole set.

My wife rarely comments on any scent I am wearing. Which probably means she is either indifferent to whatever it is or does not like it. But to my surprise after an all day wearing by me, she said she really liked Perris Monte Carlo "Vetiver Carlo," an edp. I put some on fresh and she did not like that as much. I do not think of her as liking vetivers at all. Vetiver may be my favorite kind of scent.

This one is strong and riseny. The perfumer is Gian Luca Perris, released in 2021. It has been described as dark, raw, dry, assertive, masculine and boldly virile. Intimidating. One review said too linear. I would agree with all of the former descriptive words, but not too linear and I think my wife's reaction to the dried down scent versus the freshly applied proves me right.

I really like this one. it is powerful though.
