Vintage Chinese DE

Good day gentlemen.....and ladies.

I recently purchased a vintage DE from a local antique store as my interest in DE began to rise.
I bought it for 15$ and, even if its not worth it, its looks great-I think it's worth it though. It is a travel model, quite small yet easy to hold and set up.
I need you guys, and girls, to tell me what kind of razor blades are best to use for this model and how to acquire some at reasonable prices.

Tell me what you think: honesty is the best policy.

Thanks everyone.

I'm afraid I have no idea what it is but MAN that is a nice razor and case! I hope it turns out to but something amazing.

The case is really unique, I bet it was made for "the year of the horse" (1906*1918*1930*1942*1954*1966*1978*1990*2002) if I might be so bold as to issue a total blind guess :tongue_sm I like the blade safe/mirror and the animated horse, I cant say I'v seen them in any other razor case. The handle looks very similar to my German Tech, though its a bit more squared off than mine. I would have easily paid $15 for it, and think you would have gotten off cheap for just that case.

Thanks guys.

I consider myself somewhat lucky to find a nice piece like this.

I found some dorco stainless razor blades on ebay for a good price.
Any ideas on their quality?

cheers folks

I fried one or two in my blade sampler pack and they were just fine though they did not make it onto my "to buy" list. They did however, make it onto several top five DE blade lists when that thread was still active.

If they are the 301's they are a good non-aggressive blade that is very forgiving. These are good for new users, and they were the first blades I used when I went with DE.

Good fortune to you.

Thanks Loric, good stuff.

Thanks for the feedback, GD, very useful indeed. They are in fact 301's and they are 15$ for a pack of 100 blades, shipping to canada included.

What do you think?

Isn't that the Flying Eagle, a contemporary Chinese copy of the Tech? I have one with a case very much like that except it doesn't have a picture on the case. I'd use it as a travel razor but unfortunately the catch doesn't fasten properly. Worth the 15 dollars I'd say.

Are you sure of what you are saying?
The eagle is def. there but I thought this DE was intended for only the chinese market, and somehow moved from one owner to the other, from china all the way to canada through the years.

Also do you know how old this one might be?

Thanks for the help.

"Flying Eagle. Made by the Kwang Yung Safety Razor Set Factory in Shanghai, this is a 3 piece Tech type razor, available with different coloured plastic handles (including pink!) as well as with metal handles. Most versions seen in the West come in a nicely embossed travel tin and it is reckoned to be a fairly mild shaver. Sometimes these are known under the brand names Suifupai and Seagull."

These are a good blade for the price but if you a starting on DE usage go for a sampler pack so that you can experience other blades without being locked into a 100 qty.

Find a blade sampler with some from Dorco (301's to start out), Israeli Crystals, Astra, Sharks, Derby's, and maybe a Bluebird.

Check out NTGuys or Dririot and see what they can do for you before you buy a lot of 100. I have done business with both vendors and they are good and solid.

Here's where you can find them on our site.
