VDH Soap

Ok, I live in Richmond, BC Canada, and I've looked everywhere for van der Hagen (VDH). Yer maybe it's out there but it sure is hiding from me. So I bought some on Amazon.ca (Note: the ...ca is for Canada). Not a bad price $23.88 Cnd for 12 x pucks. I also bought a tube of toothpaste for $1.67 Cnd so I good get the free shipping. Your order has to be $25 for free shipping and I ended up at $25.55 + all taxes and the total was $28.62 Cnd.

Depends how you want to calculate it, but say I toss the toothpaste, each puck costs: $28.62/12 = $2.39 Cnd each.

If your in the Vancouver or Richmond area where do you buy VDH and your other soaps.

I use their glycerin soaps almost exclusively. Easily melted im the microwave and one can add any scents or menthol crystals etc. Great soaps.

I keep reading about adding menthol crystals and cant for the life of me find a descriptive blog on how to use them. If someone can post a link that would be super.............

VDH Lux is cheap, a great latherer, and almost effortless. If you can figure out how to mentholate it, well, that would be pretty great.

I think VDH is one of the best soaps you can get for the money. Nice creamy, slick lather that is very moisturizing.

Like Bryant said, it's easy to scent them too!

Not a bad deal at all. I would have to check again but I believe I would pay more than that buying at the supermarket, and fight traffic both ways in the bargain.

Just last night I melted down some VDH deluxe and poured it into a wooden AoS bowl. It may not be on the same level as the other stuff in my rotation (Tabac, MWF, and RazoRock), but it's still pretty good, especially given the price!

Menthol crystals are used in proportion to weight up to 20% (20% being A LOT!). Just use the weight of the soap you are melting down and calculate the percentage of crystals you would like to use. Dissolve the crystals in so essential oil (or probably just use the melted soap if you don't want scent) and then let it harden back up (after stirring the crystals in of course).

It was my first soap that was included in the VDH bowl, brush, and soap kit. It was good and easy to learn on. I wouldn't go out of my way to get any. But, if it fell into my lap I wouldn't refuse it.:biggrin1:
