Trumper's coconut - bad one?

A few weeks ago I bought a tub of Trumper's coconut. The scent is divine, and it seems to lather really easily, however there is a problem: it seems as though there was a board meeting during the development and the guy who mentioned the word "slickness" was stoned out of the room as a heretic. I've tried more product, more water, less of both, face lathering, mug lathering and adding glycerin, and no matter what I do it feels like there's no lubrication and the blade's dragging. I have actually had a couple of nicks due to blade skipping with this stuff. I have no such problems with TOBS, Proraso or D R Harris creams, nor with TOBS, D R Harris, QCS, Palmolive or Professor Blighty soap, it seems to be unique to the Trumper's.

Can anyone suggest anything before I get rid? I really want it to work because A: it wasn't cheap, B: lots of others seem to love it, and C: it smells amazing, but it's just not working for me. :cursing: Is this a feature of this cream or have I got a bad tub?

I bought one tub of this after so many positive reviews; after five or six shaves I found nothing special about this cream. It is really easy to lather, but can achieve a better shave (cushioning and slickness mainly) from most of my other creams including ones that costs about 10% of GFT. Also found the coconut smell too artificial. For me the best decision is keep this cream in rotation (using it maybe 2 times a month) and stop taking reviews too seriously.

I've no experience with the coconut, but I recently bought a tub of GFT and love it. Slickest cream I have (out of maybe 10 others including AOS and TOOBS).

Try more water perhaps?

just goes to show, not all products are for everyone...regardless of the reviews and how many people praise it.

i love it. works well on my face. no issues with slickness at all.

the only think i can suggest, and i'm sure i've already tried it, is more product and more water.

Thanks guys. I'll keep it in less regular rotation for the scent and will continue trying different product / water combinations. I could see this being a favourite if I could only get a slick lather. I suppose sooner or later I was destined to find a product I struggled with...

My experience with this cream was generally very satisfactory. However, the scent, while decent enough, is not one of my special favorites. Its performance was good. One thing, though. It is no more or less moisturizing or soothing than any other Trumper cream, with the possible exception of the Almond cream. I am very fond of the Tumper line, but my favorites are Rose, Lime, and Almond.

OK, I have persevered with the Trumper's and it seems like I was using too much product. This stuff is firmer than the TOBS creams I have and it seems that a little goes a long way! By using less cream than I thought I was going to need the last couple of shaves with it have been fine. I don't think I've fully dialled it in yet, but I am encouraged to keep using it. :biggrin1: Plus it smells gooood! Bizarrely however, my wife appears to be unable to smell coconut. For me this is one of the most lingering scents I've tried but she says it just smells a bit like soap.

nice...glad you got it worked out.

my partial tub (2/3 to 3/4 full) is the next one I will be 3017ing.

I'm looking forward to shave after shave with it. it's one i regularly open up just to sniff when i'm in the shave den

What's 3017ing?

I often open the various tubs and bowls and have a sniff when I'm in the bathroom, glad to know it's not just me!

I think this is a problem that as wet shaving gurus we have to suffer. There are probably more products out there than there are wet shavers. So the chance of you getting an old product that has been sat in a store room for months is more than likely.

3017

Yes, I enjoy sniffing my soaps and creams when I'm in the shave den for whatever reason. My name is Bruce and I'm a sniffer

My experience with GFT Coconut Oil shaving cream has only been with the tubes, not the tubs. I have gone through several tubes, and I love the stuff. It is more moisturizing than GFT Rose and Violet (again, in the tubes only; I have not tried the Rose or Violet in tubs and never will). It is not at all irritating to my skin (unlike GFT Rose and Violet), and it doesn't stain my brush (unlike GFT Rose and Violet, which does).

Until this morning, when I first used Castle Forbes Lavender shaving cream, GFT Coconut Oil was my favorite shaving cream. Now, it is my second favorite.

Love my TOBS Coconut. Works ridiculous amazing in Uber lather too. But I am having the problem you stated with my new English Tweed from Queen Charlotte. Super firm and just can't get it to later all that well.
