What's new

tried my AOS sample today

Picked up a free AOS sample at the mall the other day and tried it this morning. I was hoping to try the sandalwood because it smells really good, but all they had was non-scented kits.
Anyway...wow, what a nice shave! Very smooth and when I used my Kiehl's blue toner afterwards, no burning. I think that's the first time I've ever had that with DE shaving. I've never used a pre-shave oil before, so maybe that's the trick for me. Going to try the SC by itself next time to test out the theory. Not real excited about how oily it makes the razor and brush handle (should probably wash my hands after applying), but I can deal with it if it helps I guess.

There sandalwood soap is by far my favorite and the ASB is the only one I have ever used and I think I would buy another bottle. It moisturizes exceptionally well and it cheaper than T&H. I have also had a full size bottle for well over 6 months and have used about 25% of it so far.

Yea the AOS rocks, it was my first choice when it came to picking a shaving creams, but i recently just bought some C.O. bigelow and it works very well, but i must say i still like AOS better. I also started out first with the sample of AOS, and yes the shaving oil sucks for me, no real added benefits...tried it without oil got the same results...go figure :tongue_sm

Yup - nice product. I like the lather it produces, but it has an off scent to me that kills any enjoyment I may have while using it.

Are you talking about the unscented, or another? Anyone have any idea how the different scents lather in comparison to each other?

Although the differences are very, very small, I think the unscented lathers the best, and the Lemon/Sandalwood/Lavender lather approx. the same (and just a tad less than the unscented).

All very good creams, though - I don't know why they don't get more love on these forums!

I've used AoS, Proraso, T&H (UC and Grafton), and Nancy Boy creams, and AoS stacks right up against any of those for quality.

The oils and balms are a little thick for my preference, but also seem to be well made stuff. And the balms do last a long, long time (although so do the T&H and other balms).

I find I get better lather with the unscented cream than with the lemon. I don't know why.
The AOS unscented cream is as good as any cream I've used. I frequently use the ASB, too.
I dislike the AOS pre-shave oil. It's unnecessary, too.

The pre-shave oil is pretty useless for shaving, but I use it for OCM sometimes, as it has the right ingredients. I have the AOS lavender and it lathers well but I think C.O. Bigelow performs MUCH better. Could be my individual batch. The ASB is really good.

I'm looking forward to using the cream tomorrow AM w/o the pre-shave oil to see if I can get the same results.

It almost moisturizes too well, in fact--at least, for my Florida humidity. I have to use it sparingly, which annoys me, given how fond of the scent I am. :001_rolle

Use a little water to cut it. Here in Boston it's COLD and the ASB helps moisturize my skin as I get very dry skin.

the shaving oil you'll see is pretty useless in my mind, i have the unscented AOS and i love it, moisturize my skin perfectly, and the after shave is just icing on the cake!!:001_rolle
