Travel kit lather bowl?

Interesting idea...looks like it could possibly double as a way to store your soap while traveling if you just bring a slice of soap with you as well. Couldn't hurt, how does the bowl hold up? It appears to be plastic and folds up...my concern would be the bowl getting weak after a while.

Travel = Face lather time. Unless it's more than a few days.

Or use the mug they have in the room for coffee. Improvise......Overcome...

Besides, can only bring DE blades in checked luggage.

I think that's a pretty good method of improvisation.

2 thumbs up !

Travel for me means face lather or hand lather . . . shave stick or cream.
+1 ... I usually leave my brush at home, and just rub up a good lather with my fingers and the palm of my hand. This works with any soap or cream. Neither my whiskers nor my razor can tell the difference.

I'm sure this was just a newbie question, but as such, I've been looking for ways to build a kit. I don't do much travel and when I do, it's normally going and staying the same place for the duration. Not tried to really face or hand lather yet.

The bowl is tupperware and while SHMBO hasn't used it much, when I thought of this, she was glad to volunteer it. I'm sure it would hold up for awhile as long as it's only flexed to open or close just when being packed up.

Unfortunately, most of the places I've stayed, coffee mug = styrofoam cup.:001_rolle

Thanks to all for the suggestions. I think I'll give them all a try and see what works best for me.

I've tried hand lathering and face lathering, but prefer to build lather in a bowl. I'm on the road Monday to Thursday each week; like so many B&B members have posted, I enjoy a good shave in the morning, and it's one way I can carve out some time for myself each day.

I recently stayed at a Homewood Suites (which has a full kitchen) and used a cereal bowl to build lather. I figure it's soap, after all, and housekeeping runs the bowl through the dishwasher before putting it back in the cupboard. I suppose if your oatmeal tastes a little soapy you can blame me.

I've also used hotel room soap dishes after giving them a quick wash with soap and water.

This past week I picked up a set of 2 small plastic nesting bowls at a dollar store; I make lather in the small bowl and set it in the large bowl - filled with hot tap water - to keep the lather warm. I'm also on the lookout for an inexpensive latte cup as I've heard they work well, too.

As you build your travel kit, consider the case and type of razor. TSA never expressed interest in my cased Travel Tech. Once I started putting my HD 34C in a travel case, TSA lost interest in it as well (I used to wrap it in a washcloth, which they would unwrap each week without fail) - but they've started asking about my soap that travels in a Pyrex dish. I also preemptively put the cased razor in the plastic bin next to my 3-1-1 bag so it's out and available if they want a closer look.

There are some squishable silicone bowls available for backpacking that would probably work well. I prefer a shave stick and face lathering for travel, though, because it's fewer items to cram into my Dopp.

They do work very well. I use one all the time. I travel a lot, and got sick of improvising with what I could find in the hotel room. Building lather in a coffee cup is like changing into a business suit in an airport restroom. Face-lathering is a final resort for me, and hand-lathering should have ended when Neanderthals finally gave way to larger-craniumed Homo Sapiens.

Interesting bowl Catseye - never saw one of those. Very cool and looks like the same concept as a backpacking bowl I have. Perhaps a bit large?

I sure understand the attraction of keeping it simple but I prefer bowl lathering. I also wanted a standard kit I could throw in without thought, regardless of whether it was a couple of days or a couple of weeks. Sometimes I don't even know which it'll be.

You can use something quite small. I have a 3.25" dia. melamine bowl from Target, and a snap-top case of soft soap (Valobra) fits inside that. So it doesn't take up a lot of space. Add a Wee Scot brush in a plastic tube, a razor in a film canister, maybe some cream in another little container, and you're set regardless.

All fits into a zippered bag for small tools.

But whatever works!

P.S. Thanks to Bri Dog for the good TSA info. That's helpful...knowing about cases, and especially coming from someone who travels a lot.

I have not been flying lately, but would try some of the collapsible dog bowls for lather. Actually, I would go to some lengths to avoid standing in line to take my shoes off for some nitwit TSA employee.

If you are keen on taking a lather bowl with you, that would be a good alternative. You should be able to rest it in the bottom of the water-filled basin to keep warm.
When I travel, I normally look for simple solutions and my current kit consists of a soap stick, a badger brush in a travel tube and a DE (or cartridge razor if I travel with just hand luggage). This is normally when I take the opportunity to use the samples that I have accumulated (balm, AS, cologne etc) in order to keep things compact.

I have traveld/lived on the road for the better part of the last 2 years. I alwayse take a DE and a pacage of drugstore blades in the dispozal case. I may be going to small airports (E.G.Roswell, NM) but even in large Airports (Denver, DFW) they rairly look at the DE as a threat. I haven't tried the case but think it's a good ieda.
I take a small dip bowl or a small corningwear dissert dish cause they are cheep and fit in my dopp kit. I have a cardboard tube for my brush (but found that a Christal Light tube is the same size) and a travel tube of CO Big cream and it's just like being at home.
The Second pic shows my travel kit and both bowls (I only pack one) it all fits in the dopp kit.

Smooth Shaves,
Matt

I like some others travel with a shave stick. However, I prefer bowl lathering and some of the improvisations mentioned here are very good.
