What's new

Today my wife gave me a hair cut

And that's it - I am never going to a hair place again.
Not that Al was doing a bad job - on the contrary - he was great.
He was also $30 and to add insult to injury, he would almost never take walk-ins and I am not the kind of guy to schedule a ... he is not a doctor!
Or the corner place where the two Russian ladies there made me look like a 5 year old.

This is was our first time... she cutting my hair that is. And boy, I am happy. Few reasons: (1) she did an awesome job. (2) I can now get a hair cut every week if I felt like it (3) I did not have to tip.

The next hair cut is going to be better, and the next one even better.
I feel like I got a "free gas for your car for the rest of your life" card!

The last time my wife cut my hair it was a disaster. Congrats on your wife's natural ability and skill! Something mine seems to lack

small debt compared to the one associated with disappearing for an hour and a half in the middle of the day leaving her with 2 screaming babies...

ive been cutting my hair with hair clippers and no attachments for 19yrs now .. i think ive more then made up for any barbers fee's with the purchase of those things !

I've cut my hair twice recently, and it was great. I'm sure it'll go quicker the more I do it. I keep it very short (high and tight) on the sides and back and longer on top. I can never get a barber to leave enough on top, so I gave it a go myself. Worst that could happen is I would have to get it fixed by a professional if I screwed it up, but so far so good. I'm really happy with the results, and my girlfriend says the back looks as good as when I pay someone to do it. I just do the back by feel because I don't have a second mirror.

I had grown my hair for almost two years, finally decided to cut it last year. My wife was the one that did it.

she did a fantastic job, and even though i was being a picky sob i was incredibly happy with the end result.

+1 on the Wahl clippers, i actually invested about $50 extra and bought the wahl professional grade detailer (T-blade) the thing gets the finest edges/lines.

you may not have to tip, but at least take her out to dinner (her pick).

Now i trust SWMBO with trimming my beard but not cutting my hair :biggrin1:

Congrats that she was able to cut your hair nice for you :)

I've been cutting my dwindling crop of hair for several months. Decided to shave it off, so now it's just another form of haircut.

I've been cutting my own hair for about 5 years now. The $30 i spent on the clippers has paid for it self meny times over.

I don't see why a doctor's time is worth more than your barber's time, or any one else's time. We all only get 24 hours in a day. True professionals work by appointment. I have for years, and I sell cars. No, I can't get away with charging someone who doesn't show up (your doctor probably does), but that time I schedule is lost when a customer does not show up. And as bad as the reputation of car salesmen is for lying, you'd be surprised how many customers schedule and don't show up or call.

I did not say anything about who's time is worth more, but granted, i can see it might come out of what I said, no offense intended. I am not the kind of guy who schedules an appointment to get a hair cut, not my thing.

I'm been cutting my own hair now for almost a year. It looks the same as when I paid $32 a visit to have someone else do it. I use a Wahl clipper with #8 guard for the top and #7 for everything else and sometimes I'll leave the very front and do that with scissors.

My Wahl set came with a battery powered trimmer as well so it's easy to do the side burns and "edging" the back and around the ears. It's really hard to "mess up" except for the edging part since there is no guard there.

I should have started doing this long ago. I always (until YouTube) :) thought it was much harder than it is.
