TOBS Shaving Shop Cream Problem

I got a tube of TOBS shave shop today due to many good comments I've read about it's wonderful fragrance.
In anticipation, I opened it up for that first whiff and it ran out all over my hand. It is very runny, like an aftershave milk.
Odd I thought. Anyway, I went to take a whiff and couldn't smell anything.

This was just delivered, and it is a hot day. Could it be the heat has affected it ? And could I expect it to return to normal after sitting a spell ?

I have contacted the vendor already, and am just waiting a response. Thought I might ask around here while waiting. Thanks !!

Creams can get "weird" if not in perfect environment..put it in your refrigerator..cool it down...worth a try

Is the Fragrance of this cream suppose to be strong, or is it subtle ?

I've had this happen with the tube of cream (but not the tub). The scent was still there. All I did was let it sit at room temp for a few hours and then tried to remix it by smashing the tube around. It still never turned out as good as the tub I had...YMMV.

Don't know if the tube is the same, but I had a tub that had an "odd", sour smell, with some oil separation. Since it was in a tub, I was able to mix it well and hoped for the best. I have used it off and on for the past six months, and it performs well, but I keep wondering if the smell is tainted in someway. It did help to push me more toward soaps, and I have no plans on replacing it when it is gone (though I will buy another tube of Musco Real cream - but that's a different thread). Tobs does have a shave shop aftershave, that would be the thinner consistency. Similar tube, did they send the right one?

the fragrance to me was a light barbershop/cologne scent. i didnt find it strong (or memorable).

The fragrance seems to have returned after cooling off. But it is still very runny.

I have eight TOBS creams that I use regularly. Shaving shop is one of my favorites, so much so that I purchased the AS and Cologne. It is a very classy vintage scent to my nose that I would describe as medium in strength which lasts a long time for me. Some of my other TOBS creams arrived in different consistencies but thickened up and performed extremely well. I hope you enjoy your experience with this fine cream.

Maybe it went a bit "off" because of the heat it was exposed to?
Or maybe it's just a bad batch.
Does it still lather well?


I only have a tub of TOBS Sandalwood to compare it to, and it's not runny at all.

Thanks. I have never bought their tubes just tubs, I have a tube of their shave shop aftershave balm so I wasn't sure if they were clearly marked or not.

I have been notified by the vendor that they will be sending me a new tube. So, it's a non-issue now, but still weird.

Another stellar customer service example from WCS, the reason 99% of my shave shopping is done at their website. If you've never shopped with WCS, I would highly recommend you to try them out.

I don't think it's weird. Same thing happened to me. Purchased a tube of Sienna at Crabtree and Evelyn. Looked at the tube,smelled it in the store. Did some other shopping that day and when I came home to try it the tube squirted out liquid all over. That was only from sitting in my car in 85 degree heat for a few hours. I can imagine what would happen over a few days.
