Time spent shaving?

I was wondering - How long does it take you to shave, and why it takes some of you such a long time to shave? I have seen people in other threads say anywhere from 25 minutes to an hour, for just the actual shave itself.

I shave my face with a straight razor, and my entire head with a DE, everyday. From start to finish, including lathering up the soap, stropping the straight razor, and cleanup afterwards - I'm done and BBS on the head and face in 15 minutes or less.

Anyways, maybe you guys just really like to take your time? :001_cool:

I shave after I shower in the morning. From getting out of the shower to walking out the door after clean up is about 20 min.s. I don't want to rush my shave b/c I do enjoy that moment of the day, listening to the razor cutting the stubble, the scent of the day, its just a great way to get my day started, at least until I get to the coffee pot.:thumbup1:

The actual time is not the issue for me; I just don't want the feeling of being rushed. I can manage a DFS, face only, in under 10 minutes, maybe closer to five if I have to. I'd say that 20 minutes, counting a shower first, is more typical of my normal routine.

On the other hand, I don't want to dawdle just for the sake of dawdling. The elaborate routines with preps, hot towels, and post-shave treatments just don't interest me.

On the other other hand, I spend an inordinate amount of non-shave time on this forum, talking about shaving. Perhaps that should count.

Starting out my wife complained it took me longer to get around than it did her since I had started wet shaving.. Now I am down to about 15 minutes including cleanup to do my face and that includes the 5 to 10 minutes I let the brush soak as well.. I alternate between straights and DEs depending on how I feel.

I took a long time when I was starting to learn with a DE. 30 to 40 minutes with prep. Now it feels like in addition to my technique solidifying, my skin has gotten more used to the DE blade and I don't have to be as finicky and cautious as before.

I shower first and then shave a total time of 30 minutes since I usually brush my teeth during this time span also.

I use a DE, and for me it on;y takes about 15 mins including prep and after shave. Thats with 3 passes, and its a DFS to BBS depending on stubble and awakeness.

I usually take about 20 minutes from starting the tap to the end of cleaning up. That's including 4-5 minutes of Kyle's Prep and 10-15 minutes of actual shaving.

I have decided that 10 minutes is more than enough time to get a decent two pass DE shave. I just have too many other great things to do in a day for myself and others to spend more time than that!

During the week before work I usually take 15 minutes... The weekends, I like to spend a little extra time and effort to perfect the shaves

I usually take about 30 minutes for the shower and the shave. About 20-25 minutes for the shave. If I am strapped or time I may not shave or might just do a WTG then a XTG in about 15 minutes.

I usually take about 20 minutes including pre-shave prep, 2 passes WTG, 1 pass XTG, a splash of cold water and a dab of after shave balm...then off to breakfast with the wife.

OK, you made me do it. Watch a clock that is.
Here's the breakdown for this morning - a typical DE shave:

Soaking brush = doesn't count, I'm doing other stuff then!
Splash face, soap with Pre de Provence = 0m 15s
Drain brush, load with Cella, build lather in bowl = 1m 0s
Lather face thoroughly, working into beard = 0m 25s
Actual shave; two pass on sides, max. 4 passes on chin and in stubborn areas = 3m 30s
Cleanup: wash bowl, rinse brush and shake, disassemble razor, dry blade, reassembly, storage = 0m 55s
Rinse face, splash on witch hazel = 0m 25s

Total = 6m 30s

I can take much longer, but this is representative.
I might lather my face and leave it to soak while making coffee, for example.

I'm in a similar vein here, but I can't help but notice there's no note of rinsing and relathering between passes, which is what I do. That makes each pass about 5 minutes for me (~15 total).
I also go with the Witch Hazel with a rinse beforehand (plus towel dry), and allow it to air dry while I rinse out the brush and cleanup.
I rinse with cold water afterwards, then apply a balm.
All of which takes extra time, so my typical shave is closer to 30 minutes.

I also re-lather between passes of course. That's included in the 3-1/2 minutes. I don't rinse in between - maybe I should, but it never occurred to me! Re-lather takes far less time than initial lathering because I don't work it in as thoroughly - just apply it with vigorous, scrubby motion.

I usually rinse with cool water, do all the clean up stuff, apply witch hazel and leave it there. And I'm done! I put the order a bit differently on that part than my usual.

Nothing wrong with doing lots of other things that can stretch it out and make it more luxurious, even including the warm towel thing (haven't tried that yet) but this is just the basic routine for me.

It takes me around thirty minutes; perhaps a bit less. I do six passes with fairly quick (but adequate) preparation while I fill the sink with hot water and soak my brush. I also spend some time doing touch-ups for the most awkward bits. I could do less passes but the perfectionist/obsessive-compulsive in me wouldn't be satisfied with the results, even though no one else would notice.
