What's new

Ti 7/8

Gents,
I decided to give the straights another try. Thanks to the encouragement from fellow members like Ameet, Vior and the rest of you. I ordered a TI 7/8 blond horn from Rasage poulin. It arrived today. Now the website said it was historical, the box says it's historical. But the blade says Carbonsong C135. So this is causing me some confusion. Rasage is closed today.

Wow, great looking razor!!! I have a nice Le Grelot TI, and it's one of my favorite blades.

Sorry I don't have any info on your question about whether the blade is historical, except that I do know from my own razor that TI uses old razor blanks for making "new" razors, and these razors might have new etching, new scales, new boxes but still be considered "historical" in some sense of the word.

RP should know exactly what's going on with this razor, though. Hope they can help.

The historical 7/8's is a great shaver. As for your blade, it certainly presents an anomaly that is best solved by asking the man who sold it to you. Anyone else's comments are pure speculation.

I had a similar question on a blade I bought from Scott at Rasage Poulin, that is an old historic blade his first batch of blades he got from TI the wrong designs were put on.

Yes, I talked to Scott, he said:
"It is historic steel. It was mis-etched. You have the straight razor world's version of an upside down printed stamp."

He also said that the steel is atleast 50 yrs old according to TI.

Sweet.. now you have one of a kind historic. I love these blades as you know.. I have 2 of them, they are perfectly balanced amongst any of the TI's i have handled

Gents,
I just finished my first complete straight shave. Got a few nicks and weepers, but that TI is something else. I have been able to get BBS to about 85% of my face.:001_tt2:

Absolutely! I think I'll be hooked on this. I can feel the difference as it mowed through my beard compared to the 5/8 Dovo I previously tried. Makes me wonder if a 7/8 can do this, then what about a 8/8 or a 9/8 in 1/4 hollow?

Having had some connection to the TI factory, I have actually seen the etching artwork for "Rasage Poulin".

There is only the one design which was originally produced for the blade of the new steel and it appears that it has also been used for the historic blades (and that one IS one of the older, historic blades).

Hope this helps.

As they say "it's not the size that matters it's the steel." and TI make their blade with some awesome steel.

You're right. The artwork for the historic steel razors was completed after my initial order. So, there are very, very few of the "mis-etched" historic blades. I think (without looking back at my records) that there were only two (of the razor in question in this thread) produced. My newer orders of razors made of historic steel that bear the Le Canadien mark are identified on the mark as being Historic Silver Steel.

I'm happy to read that you enjoyed the shave. That's what matters most to me once all is said and done.

Here is the other, and it too is a fantastic shaver and the fit and finish on it are perfect.

I too am lucky enough to have both of these razors. I think the steel in these razors is really unique as the edges are exceedlingly sharp and long lasting. The weight and balance of these large razors make them a joy to shave with. I used my 7/8's this morning and as usual got a fantastic shave.

Just to add to the folly in this thread, I have a Le Grelot 1/4 hollow in ram's horn scales that has the carbonsong c135 Le Canadian etching on the blade. It is one of my top shavers and now I have another reason to cherish it due to the rarity of the etching.
