The Test....with a Hotel razor. DE forgot a home

Traveling out of the country last week and found myself in for 4 days and only a simpson brush and a jar of Cella..........no DE razor. I had forgot to pack it.
A very tight work schedule kept me from purchasing a good razor and the only available shave is the Hotel free razor.
the Test, can my skills get this to work. This was not the first time i have had this problem. It was the first time since I learned so much Since my daily shave with my feather bladess, Fat boy, simpson brush and Soap.

In the past. It was a painful event that I had horrible results. This time......

Not so bad. True it was not the BBS of my life, but i was able to do things i could not before. I was really impressed at what i could do with a 10 cent cheapo razor with some good soap and skill.

So the next time you forget your blade and are stuck to use the Hotel freebe....."take the test"

Those of you who travel alot will understand.
Good luck

Good luck

Yes it is not what younwish for. Point is in the past i had no chance for a complete shave.
Those who put all of it on a better blade are only 50 percent correct.

Coincidentally in that position yesterday. Got a decent shave and what I had forgotten in the six months I have been using a DE was just how much pressure was required to get the job done. Bore down like a mule heading back to the barn.

I was traveling a year or so ago and had packed all of my gear, except my razor. In frustration I dug through my bag, and along with gum wrappers, an ancient chap stick, four or five aspirin tablets, and about $4.00 in assorted change, I found a really old Gillette Good News tucked away in a zippered pocket. There is just no telling how long this razor has been in there, how many times it's been used, or whether or not my ex wife had used it to shave the calouses on her feet. I decided to brave it and gave it a try......oh my....the pain. UGH! Dull as humanly possible, probably a bit rusty, and dented from the coinage in the pocket, it did not deliver a pleasant shave. Oh well, won't do that again.

Be warned. I say this because I stayed in a mid-priced international chain hotel in Bangkok last January and decided to try out the provided no-brand, twin-blade razor for fun. The humidity must have dulled the blade, because it was pure pain dragging it across my cheek on the first swipe. At least I was lucky to have packed my DE razor.

Early in my DE career, I tried my old cartridge razor and found that my wet shaving skills had vastly improved. Honestly, I had a very nice shave from the cartridge razor, probably one of my best. I still prefer traditional wet shaving and haven't touched it yet.

Two of the best shaves I have ever had have been when using a BIC Sensitive disposable. If this is what the hotel provides, it can be done.

I haven't shaved with one of those since I was a teenager. I almost bought a package on a lark the other day. Might give it a try for the heck of it. If it's workable, something like that would be handy for flying carry-on only.

I was once forced to shave at work as I worked a backside 24 hr shift as a medic. I was required to shave as my growth got too long for a potential "mask fit seal" or some bs like that. Used a green handled plastic razor meant to shave chests for 12 lead placements and fibulator pads to stick good. I used foamy style hand soap, hot water and hand sanitizer as AS. Wasn't too bad actually.

What hotels provide a razor? I've never seen that.
Really? Most of the ones I've stayed at in my post-college life have provided them if asked. It's almost ALWAYS one of the orange bic disposables or a twin blade of some sort, in my experience the few times I've forgotten things. Heck, I've used the hand soap bar and a wash rag to lather before in an instance where I was forced to travel unexpectedly and had taken only the clothes on my back. Even THAT, with a hotel razor beats canned goo as far as I am concerned, but it certainly isn't ideal.

I think my skin allows me to shave with anything with only mild irritation if my technique wasnt there that day. I have never struggled with mach type razors and Loved mine until I discovered DE. For fun I will shave this weekend with the cheapest disposable I can find at my local supermarket.

All great stories thanks. I travel all over the world. The point i had was when forced to use those twin blade Hotels razors in the past it was impossible.
Funny thing is i always wondered how the heck the old timers used this crap in the 70's
It seems they may have still known how to prep the skin, apply a good lather, and run the blade. Only way i see it since i had no skills at the time after years of electric shaving.
I do not wish to use a bic twin again. However as long as i have my soaps and a badger brush i know i can makenit happen.
ps: do not take the test unless you have no other choice. It was fun none the less.
