The Scruffy Look-I just don’t get it!

Would somebody please tell these morons they look ridiculous! If they want to grow a trimmed beard--fine do it! But the perpetual “I last shaved four days ago” looks lazy and stupid. At risk of an ACLU lawsuit, I would love to ask one of them at a job interview “What’s with your shaving situation? Are you trying to look cool to compensate for having a small . . . ?”

I shave 1nce a week..just makes things easier for me..but I have talked to those who grow beards as they all replied the same thing "never bothers me"...lol

I didn't realize it was back in fashion again, not that it every really left. I think more guys don't like shaving every day or can't be bothered to make the time, rather than think it is fashionable, but I could be wrong. Was reading the blog A-Continuous-Lean posted here on another thread and noticed that their top post was about the same but with a positive spin: Upward Mobility: The Beard Goes Corporate (better title would be the scruffy look)

Sadly I have been a victim of scruffyness this winter. Cycling to work in weather that hits anywhere from the single digits to the teens has taxed even my best skincare items and my face has just been too dry to shave. I tried to maintain my shaving for the first month or so, but now it's a lot of nicks and irritation. I always feel like a fool near the end of the week when it's getting rough, but fortunately I have a fine beard that isn't too hipster. I am looking forward to warmer weather to say the least.

You don't like it then don't look, really simple. You choose to shave, another person doesn't. Why get upset about another person's face?

I only shave 2 or three times a week, but i still trim growth if im not shaving, to be fair there is a right and wrong way to do the look, trimming the neck lines and some uneven patches goes a long way to having the unshaven look, look clean and kept up, not doing anything but allowing growth just looks lazy, though there are people who can pull it off usually its just guys who dont want to shave,... and i have those days too lol

I keep a close/tight beard, and shave every Saturday. So from Sunday to Friday, my neck and upper cheeks grow out a bit. My neck is too sensitive to shave every day but regardless, I'm not going to wake up even earlier to shave a little extra fuzz. When I get a job that starts later in the day, maybe I'll shave more.

And you know, if you ignored what they look like and actually talked to these "morons", you may find that they are not lazy, stupid guys with small packages and a inferiority complex... they just might be industrious, smart, and well-endowed men.

Some might be lazy and stupid, of course. But so are some of those clean-shaven guys.

Some of us have skin issues that make shaving every day impossible. I shave 2-3 times a week because if I shave more than that, my face looks like hell. And luckily there are jobs that don't require us all to be clean-shaven. And if someone asked me something like what you said at a job interview, I would politely ask them (1) what business it is of theirs and (2) what difference does it make?

Just because one has stubble doesn't mean one looks messy or unkempt. It's not 1962 anymore.

Amen.

The problem with job interviews is you have to dress to impress, but you don't know the other persons tastes.

Although I can't see being clean shaven ever working against you, stubble might. Personally I wouldn't take the risk.

I guess that means I agree with you Steve in the OP, but I don't let them bother me.

I am pretty sure the "scruffy" look would happen a lot less if all the women who find it attractive suddendly did not find it attractive.
