What's new

The Goodfellas' Smile, SYNTESI, DE Safety Razor

I'm considering adding the Stainless Steel edition of the razor to my collection.

I like a mid-aggressive razor (understanding the blade used makes a difference).

Have any of you or friends etc., used this razor.

If yes, would you give it a mini review? I have the brass Goodfellas' Smile Bayonetta and love it.

There are many review on U-Tube it is information you need check out, see what the TUBE-ERS are saying
Good, and Bad.

Hope you get some B n B owners chiming in if they love, hate, or it is the BEST BRASS.

Thanks for the info, but I'm talking about their Stainless Steel SYNTESI. The BRASS model is the Bayonetta.

I bought one roughly 3 months ago, but haven’t used it a whole lot (maybe ten shaves with it so far). That’s not saying it’s a bad razor, I’ve just really taken a liking to my Henson AL 13 aggressive and Game Changer 76 and use those pretty much exclusively now. It does feel really well built and is very hefty. The handle is quite short and the head is very thin, so very good around tighter areas. It has kind of a built in 45 degree angle, although you do have to pay attention to it more than with something like a Henson as the small surface area of the built in angle due to the thin safety bar and top cap makes it a bit easier to lose the angle, although you’re not as locked in as you would be with the Henson, there is some play there with the angle. I would compare it to my Henson medium in terms of efficiency and just a half notch below for smoothness. It does a very respectable job with a Feather blade in it. My only real complaint about it would be the coating on the stainless steel, it does feel a bit draggy when compared to my 6C and Game Changer. I think a polished finish to this razor would make it almost perfect. I bought it based on a lot of positive reviews so there is a lot of people out there who love it. Like everything YMMV. Hope this helps man.

I can tell you that the Syntesi is is likely not a steel/coated/whatsoever version of the Bayonetta head. It is reportedly much milder.
I don’t have any experience with the Bayonetta, but I can confirm the Syntesi is definitely on the milder side and better suited as a daily driver rather than mowing down a few days growth in my limited experience with it. I will pull it out from the sidelines and have a shave with it this evening before work and report back (24 hour growth).

Happy to report it was a very smooth shave with the Syntesi. I was experimenting however with using a Dove Sensitive bar as a shave soap, which was an acceptable lather, but definitely well below my usual soaps and creams in terms of slickness and cushion. With that said however, the Syntesi paired with a feather performed very well. DFS finish from my usual two passes WTG with very little aftershave sting. I will give it a fairer shake tomorrow with a better lather from my tub of Proraso Red. The Dove Soap has no residual sickness so I didn’t want to buff too much in the tougher areas around my chin. I suspect if today’s shave is any indication, it will do extremely well with the Proraso tomorrow.

I have a question on what I need to expect when unpacking it from a manufacturing quality perspective.

I bought the steel version of the TGS Sytesi from Amazon, sold and shipped by them. (They imported it from South Europe though judging by the delivery time and tracking info in their app.)

I have a feeling that although the razor was sold as New (not a Warehouse deal!) someone else must have used it before me. Why do I think so? Because there are marks on the top cap that look like scratches, because there are tiny dents and water marks by the look of it. I think someone else dropped it in their bathroom, looked at it and thought "****, that's not cool, but it's Amazon so I will simply return it.)

Could this be possible? Or do I have to expect all the things I mentioned from a razor that's coming straight from the TGS factory?

Thanks!

I've experienced an exact situation from Amazon! I'd return it. It shouldn't take as long as it did to get delivered as they say they have them in stock. Amazon also uses 3rd party vendors, so you don't really know where the razor came from. If you're questioning it, your probably right! Good luck!
