The Gem Contour is underrated

I tried one of these for the first time ever today (I picked one up for someone who wanted a mild starter SE), and I have to say these don't quite get the respect they deserve. This is the style with the top like the G Bar but all metal. It did a hell of a job, and my beard is heavy. IMO it is mild, but not as mild as some people say it is. At least it isn't with a pella. You can get this to bite more if you alter your approach angle. The handle is really great, it has a lot of grip, is visually interesting, and I think a fair percentage of this thing is steel. My only knock is the blade tab doesn't seem to be as rigid as earlier models but it is still extremely firm with a blade inserted and shut. I've always passed these up, but I think I will get myself one next time I come across it.

Most of the older Gem SE razor models get the most love. The later (more modern) razors like the Contour seem to get passed up though I've seen more love for them lately. Both the Contour I and II models are good but I prefer the less plastic push button model the original Contour I. For me the Contour has worked well with both carbon and steel blades.

I found the Feather Weight, Push-Button, and Contour models to shave similarly. These later Gem models are a bit more forgiving easy for a quick shave IMO.
