Still getting used to the South

BigFoot

I wanna be sedated!
Even though I have lived in Texas for 8 months now I am still getting used to the Lizards. The Anoles that run around during the day in our flower gardens etc. have become fun to watch. Where I still get a little creeped out is at night. I am sitting on our covered patio and I have 3 Geckos on the ceiling above me. I know they are harmless, it is just the thought that they are up there.

Does that ever go away?

wait till you see the pine roaches.

if the geckos are up there, they're eating bugs and mosquitoes. for me, that's a good thing.

we have those in the Caribbean and like spiders, you need them. Bug/ Insect control. I never worry about them dropping down . Hell, it's real hard to catch one. I used to as a kid. smile at the neighhbors

I grew up in Fort Worth, on the Lake. I never did see the monster. Are you sure those aren't Vampire Geckos?

Have you seen a jackalope in your backyard yet? They are shy and come into yards around 4:00 AM.

You can entice them in with clover and a bit of alfalfa or other sweet grass.

Confined to the Dallas / Ft. Worth metroplex beware of this guy. He only comes out once per year so having been there eight months your time is running out. Make sure the dog and the kids are inside before dark.

I never got spooked by critters, so don't know if it goes away or not, but I'd assume it does. They're all helpful, eat bugs and are pretty cute if you look at them. I loved watching the anoles on the windows or in the garden when I lived in Florida. We got a new brood of them every spring and our garden would be full of little quarter inch lizards running around. They don't make it up to OKC, so you have to go out in the field to see lizards, for the most part.

Big Foot, shop around for some custom made gecko skin cowboy boots. It's Texas, somebody's bound to have them. Wear 'em a couple of times and cross your legs while you sit on the patio. That way those ceiling walking reptiles can get a good look at them. They'll take the hint and move on.

Sure, you just need a dose of this:

We have anoles in Florida. I remember the rustling in the hedges drawing my attention every time I went out the front door as they scurried away on my first trip to Sarasota. I'll be getting my dose of VT in a couple of weeks at the Tough Mudder at Mt. Snow. So stoked for it!

Was in Texas for basic training in the AF and while doing my laundry saw a gecko facing off with a hissing cockroach three inches from each other. The gecko walked away. I smashed the cockroach but like the terminator peeled itself off the newspaper I used to swat it and flew away. I stopped buying that newspaper.

My pup is apparently color blind to them, but she LOVES chasing frogs.
I like the little lizards...There is one that hangs out on my patio all the time, just puffing his little neck hoping to get lucky.

Frogs are okay I guess but toads and dogs can be pretty scary. If your dog catches an ordinary toad it will begin to salivate very heavily from the effects of a toxin in the toad's skin. You'll think it's rabies, it's that bad. First aid is a rinse. There may also be a poisonous species of toad in your area. You might want to break the dog of what could be a dangerous habit.

When i was in florida, I would see hundreds of lizards a day. Sometimes watch the Curlews ( i think that was the bird ) sneak up on them in the bushes and flip it up in its mouth lol. But lizards and geckos are definitely cool in my book and harmless.
