Stainless Steel Handles

No, I have not tried them. They look pretty good, so I just ordered three. About a month ago I purchased a 24 inch length of 3/8 in. SS rod so I could make my own SS handles for three Gillette Tech razors. This saves me some work and buying a knurling tool. With shipping it was a little less then $5 each. I guess it will depend on the quality of manufacture, but the picture looks good. Thanks for the heads up!

Hmm, says "fits Merkur AND Gillette...aren't they different thread patterns?

Sort of. A handle threaded to fit a Merkur will also work on a Gillette, as long as the Gillette is not severely worn undersize.

Cooncatbob could explain it much better than I, but I think the two are somewhat compatible due to them having the same thread pitch.

Yes this is sort of true. If the handle is threaded for a Merkur, it will work on a Gillette. Unfortunately it doesn't work the other way around. I had to run a metric tap down my Bull Mastiff Ultra Lite handle in order for it to accept a Merkur 1904 head. Before this it only accepted a Gillette head. So basically if this guy has tapped his handles for metric, they will work with both standard (Gillette) and metric (Merkur) heads. If he has tapped his handles for standard, they will not work with a Merkur head without modification.

DO you remember which size metric tap you used? I read you can use 10-32 I believe for Gillettes, but it would be nice to tap it so it would work with merkur and Gillette.

The metric tap size is M5 X 0.8.
I rather doubt that anyone in this country can make even simple SS handles and sell them for $2.99, that is unless they like working for free.

One could make them for $2.99 if you were doing it on someone else's dime, using someone else's materials.:lol:

I live in Michigan (the seller is from Michigan as well), and have heard constant stories of employees of the Big Three Automotive companies using company time to produce all kinds of things, along with making off with tons of car parts.

As long as the quality is good, i don't care if they are made by Hobbits somewhere......at that price it's worth the gamble :biggrin1:

Thanks for the info!!!

Yeah, on a brave day I may tackle a 3 piece handle, but with my luck I'll have a hundred hours of labor and 8 lbs of stock to get one that even works! By that time, I could have just bought one of yours

These handles weigh 1.4 oz and 2.9" long (per seller). They are probably imported from a country like India and the seller stated originally had 51. Seems to have a good reputation and has been on the Bay since 2002.

They're LUX handles. I contacted the seller, and he told me these were from LUX razors that had damaged heads.

I use a LUX handle with a merkur classic head and it's a great combination. As heavy as an HD, but thinner.

Thanks for checking. I thought they looked like LUX handles :thumbup1:

I received mine today. I'm at work so i can't very the functionality of the threads, but the handle looks nice. Pretty good heft to it and the stainless steel is well polished. The knurling isn't extremely aggressive. The were a few minor digs at the top of the handle where the head would screw in. Nothing major. As long as the threads work, i would say it's well work the $2.99 + shipping. I'll update once I try it out. :thumbup1:
