Another double ring sale to discuss - No serial number

This is interesting in value compared to recent sales as it appears to be a non serial numbered razor a bit beat on, the case is roached but correct, opens in the center and has a very early wide Chicago ribbon. Hard to say the knurling is thin at the top, it looks thin to me in some images but not in others. Book and envelope are nice little bonuses. $500.00 $550.00 range priced right? Looks like a real what how bad do you want it vs what you have in your collection but a fun one to discuss.

Well I admire the inflation on the DR, the very first model of its kind from a Company that will last centuries

I am curious.... If you could only have one DR set would you like this semi roached non serial number set with book or a nicer say 1905 set with blade banks no book like what we have seen recently sell?

There are two answers for me on this one.

1st. If I didn't have a double ring, I'd rather have a set in a case & instructions over a beat up no serial number.

2nd. Seeing as I have 4 cased sets now, all I want is a no serial numbered razor. I don't really care for the condition of it, I just want one. There is something to me about having one of the "earliest " ones made that I really like. I also want a 1904 & 1906. If I had those, I'd be sooooo happy.

Makes perfect sense to me. I have not been collecting as long as most here and wonder how often the non serial numbered in cases actually show up. I am interested in that book and wondering if it is exactly like the 1905 sets or if there is any variation as it is probably a first run.

Another thought is restoration on the case, repair and recover, couple of blade banks and it could pay off. I am more of a purist for an original in tact sets but I think a restoration would sell well as it is more about the razor. I like that the early cases can be identified over later double and single ring cases.

The case is in two pieces, It would be nice to at least get the hinges on. This is an early set, right after the tins, that ribbon is rare.
