While it's alcohol-based, it is necessary to agitate it just prior to application as there are undissolved particulates.

You can see it settled in the pic. It's just some of the skin food ingredients. Ben (Mammoth artisan) doesn't make the splash. West Coast Shaving contracts it out using Ben's fragrance recipe. He's already asked WCS to reformulate to resolve it. He's trying to avoid "unnecessary emulsifiers" as he calls them. He's really conscientious. Settling is not unusual in the artisan realm, but he'd like to strike a happy medium, balancing practicality and avoiding additional chemicals where possible. For the record, I have no problem with it. I shake all aftershaves regardless.
