Soap Sample Question

Hello everyone. How do you find it best to use samples of soaps that you purchase? In other words, if it is a sliver, how do you get it to a state that you can load your brush with it?

Thanks in advance...

It depends on the sample, but the standard approach is to take it out of whatever container it came in, and press it into the bottom of a bowl / mug, then load and lather as you would with any other soap.

I'm currently using SRD soap samples which are too thick to press into a bowl. They are bagged separately so I flatten them with a hammer or mallet, then press into a bowl. As a glycerin soap, SRD can be microwaved and melted to fit the bottom of the bowl, but I don't like microwaving my soaps.

if it's malleable, you can mash it into your bowl and load on top of it. If it's very hard, you can grate it with a cheese grater and then mash it into your bowl. If it is melt and pour, your can give it a few seconds in the microwave and it will melt to fit the container.

I used the microwave on my SRD samples, melting them intosmall Pyrex bowls. 5-10 seconds is allit takes (depending on the strength of the microwave). I do the same thing with full size pucks ofCol Conk to melt them into wooden soap bowls. I know some people are wary of this method because they fear overheatingwill burn off the scent.

I tried microwaving the SRD Blood Orange sample. It had no scent and didn't last as long as my hammer method on the others.

I'm amused by this question being posed today, as last night I found myself holding a 1" wide sample of Mike's and trying with great difficulty to load my brush. I didn't get as much soap on my brush as I would have liked.
I'm thinking about taking the spiky side of some heavy duty adhesive backed Velcro and sticking it to a deep saucer and then just pushing the sample onto that. If the Velcro sticks well, then I can just reuse it for the next sample.

This is simple and brilliant, I never thought to use a mallet. If I couldn't finger squish I just tried to lather while holding the sample in my hand.

I was in the same situation yesterday !!! I ended up buying a very high end china bowl from bed bath beyond for 75% off after all the markdowns ended up wing 4$ (original was about 70-80$) - and from now onwards that is my bowl :)
