What's new

So I bought a Fatboy at an antique store.

I tested the open/close and adjustment mechanisms at the store. They worked fine and it looked acceptable (lower end of user grade). Paid $10 for it and brought it home. Decided to clean it up today and noticed something I wish I had noticed at the store. The blade opening is uneven. The blade gap is much more narrow at the left end of the razor.

Is this something that can be repaired? Would it be worth the time/effort?

It can be repaired/bent back into shape, but it's important to study it carefully first to find out exactly what got bent out of place. A number of things can cause what you're seeing. Whenever you see something on a fatboy or any other TTO that is out of whack, some areas to check are:
The safety bars. Do they line up with the rest of the razor?
The center blade bar. When holding the razor upright, does it rise up perpendicular to the handle and parallel with the safety bars?
Hinges. Are all 4 of them even, with no deviation up down in or out?
The blade tray itself. It may be hard to differentiate a bent safety bar and bent blade tray, and there may be overlap between the two. The tray doesn't usually bend unless someone's been prying on it.
And for a fatboy, one other possibility, though probably not all that common, check for bending of the adjustment plate. It shouldn't happen, unless it was stuck and someone pried on it.
