Skin and Acne Better or Worse after DE Shaving? Putting so many products on face now

Anyone get more acne or acne where they never had it before once DE shaving?

I don't have much, if any real acne on my face anymore but was thinking about DE and how you put so many different products on your face. Can this lead to acne, clogged pores, and problems?

I'm coming from cartridge and edge shave gel which actually left my face feeling normal, and never dry. Also didn't cause any unexpected acne or anything like that.

Now that I am starting to DE shave, I have the lather, Alum Bloc, then Nivea Post Shave Balm, and then Proraso Aftershave going on my face. I realize the Edge shave gel probably had all sorts of stuff (Both good and bad) mixed in, but when you apply all the DE products separately you realize how much you are exposing your face to them.

So my main question is, has anyone experience their skin get worse after DE shaving?

DE shaving is shaving using a double edged safety razor. It's just shaving, but with the double edged razor. The application of all of those products afterwards is independent from the shaving process. You could be applying the alum block, Nivea post shave balm and Proraso aftershave even if you were shaving with an electric razor, or not shaving at all.

I think it's unlikely that the double edged razor, or DE shaving, is causing the acne. It's more likely the abundance of products that you are applying afterwards. Why do you need two aftershaves and an alum block? Not criticizing, just wondering.

I think it's always best to use as few products as possible.

I had acne from the edge gels of the world. I don't get it anymore with wet shaving. It's soap that I'm putting on my face. Alum block just closes pores and I don't use balm, I use a splash with alcohol. Skins much better now

I haven't been doing DE for much more than a month, but already for me, the random zits in my beard area don't happen anymore, beard area is almost perfect nowadays. So for me it has helped and I think its the hot water, soap washing with brush, etc.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. Just to clarify, I don't have more acne from DE so far, I was just curious since I only used the one product when I was cartridge shaving, and am now using multiple with DE.

I'm just doing what a lot of people do and what I've read. I thought the Alum block helped as an anticeptic and tighten the skin, and the a balm helped moisture. Lastly, I put the aftershave because it smells good and for whatever other benefits it brings. Should I remove 1 of these 3 things, is the Alum and aftershave redundant?

On the flipside, DE is forcing me to pay more attention to my skin and condition it so that may result in better skin.

I have much less acne but it's primarily due to the changing my skin care routine. These days, I wash my face in the mornings and evenings with a mild facial cleanser and I also use facial scrub every few days. This alone has helped at reducing/eliminating ingrown hairs. My skin is naturally very oily and prone to acne but I do not get breakouts anymore.

TLDR version:

DE Shaving --> evaluate my skin care routine --> change skin care routine --> no more breakouts

I would suggest that you try an experiment where you do the bare minimum after your shave. Just shave, rinse, and towel dry. Then days later add in one of the items of either alum, AS, WH, or balm and see how they affect you. Of all those, WH is an astringent so that may have some benefits with complexion, maybe calming razor burn, but everybody's skin is different and it may not be a worthy addition. Alum is just a way to tighten up your skin. I don't think it is strictly needed but you need to experiment to determine its worth you. If you are using a good shaving soap/cream you may not really need a moisturizer or anything else. Sometimes shaving here is made overly complicated with the addition of all the other stuff. Just do the basics and see what happens.
