Shea Moisture: THREE BUTTERS UTILITY SOAP w/ Shea, Mango & Avocado Butters

So I saw this soap it is label as a Utility Soap and to be honest I grab it because the same brand has a shave soap for 5 dollars more and they were sitting next to each other. Once I test this out I will decide if 5 more dollars is worth it. $DSCN0589.jpg
Please let me know if any of you have tried the brand or know of it. The box sax Shea Moisture Established 1912 so I am hoping it is a good soap it might become a travel soap.

I am in love. Just used it for the first time. It create a great lather and coats my skin well and lets the razor just glide.

I saw this at a CVS and didn't pick it up. Are you still using it regularly? How does it compare to other soaps?

+1

While I have not shaved with it yet, I really like this soap. I just picked one up randomly at the drugstore and admittedly mostly because of the smell of it. It kind of had a cedarwood / sandalwood odor. It does the job of a soap, shampoo and cream. So i used it on head and lathered up like shampoo, got a thick creamy lather that i spread on my face and I have no doubt that this will make a close comfortable shave. I look forward to trying it tonight. As a soap, it rinses clean and does not lea e the skin dry... And i can smell it only skin hours later if I pit my nose to my arm. Also, I like things that are multipurpose.

That would be fantastic! I am excited to see the performance of this "utility soap." Also I like the idea of shave bars too

Ok so, you asked for it... here it is:

Loading the brush, straight off the bar.

Little baby lather beginning to form. Aww, it's cute. :out:

Prepubescent lather, starting to take maturity (about 40 seconds or so) At this point it was still pretty useless to be honest.

Best I could really get it with the brush. Now mind you, I am still new at building lather from soaps. I also think I have hard water, but I have to test it still... That being said, once I brushed it on my face, it got a little weak and thin... i tried to face lather it and it didnt change much... it was like, i dunno... too airy or something.

So my work around for this, thinking back to my shower last night... Just rub the bar on my hair, add a little bit of water and work the lather by hand using a DirtDiver Hair "brush" and my fingers. I wrung it out of there and applied it to my face and ahhhh there it is. thick creamy lather like a can of goop, only WAY better for the skin and the shave.

But as you can see, it ended up lathering pretty well. It shaved well too, nice and slick and soft. Well cushioned against the blade, and actually was the first one I didnt bleed from (or maybe i was just really careful?). Either way, the alum block OR the clubman didn't even sting. Well played Shea Moisture, well played.

As always, YMMV.

note: I still like the AoS Sandalwood better (it's my favorite so far, next to proraso green- depending on my mood), but for a travel multipurpose Soap/Shampoo/Shave cream... This stuff will stay on my rotation. :yesnod:

There you have it, hope I didn't bore you guys. I'm out!:001_005: :badger:

DirtDiver - that was an awesome post! Funny that the brush made crappy lather and your hair made a pretty damn fine one.

How is the post shave feel with the Shea bar? I love the shampoo bars with Shea from chagrin valley and I've considered shaving with them more than once.

Thanks for sharing!

Haha, thanks! I know, after I tried it in the shower i was sure that the brush would whip up a nice lather. I attribute it to poor brush skills though :blushing: It feels great actually! smooth and moisturized, as if I used some lotion or a balm.

FWIW the brush looks as though it could use a great deal more loading.
If imagine most soaps would produce an airy lather with a similar load.

Thanks for sharing and have fun experimenting

RE: my loading comment - this is a pic of my loaded B&B Omega brush.
This is NOT after the first pass, this is the type of proto lather you want to take to your face or bowl to begin building.

I love this stuff for shampoo and a shower bar. I never got a good enough lather for shaving from it, but with the awesome scent it has, the great skin feeling after the shower, I figure two out of three works for me. CVS had it 50% off the other week, I grabbed two more to have stocked in the closet. lol

Lather it really good as a shampoo and squeeze it out of your hair, then put that on your face. That's how I got it to work for a shave, and it worked pretty darn good too.

Only issue for me is I never shower shave. lol Not really a viable method for me to get a shaving lather. Not to mention, were I to do that, my brushes would all start giving me dirty looks, and my scuttle would likely go on strike! lol

I dont either, I just wet my hair in the sink and rubbed the bar on it :lol1: mostly because my newbie lathering skills kinda suck :blushing: I'm sure more experienced latherers can do well (or better than I could)
