Shaving with the New Criterion De Luxe

I missed my daily shave yesterday so decided to make today's shave a little special. So I went outside of my normal rotation and into my collection. Out came the Criterion. For such a shave I decided to really pamper myself. This is it.

I chose the two band Simpson Chubby2, a lather making machine and a soft, luxurious lathering.
To complement the Chubby I had to go with Penthaligon's Banquet Bouquet soap. More pampering.
And to finish it off I used the Banquet Bouquet After Shave Balm and After Shave. Sir Winston's favorite by the way. How could you go wrong.

And the shave? Smooth, close and BBS with 3 passes. The razor has a nice heft to it so no pressure, let the razor do the work.

The end result? My face has never felt so smooth and soft. Even the girls would be envious.

I need to find one to shave with ....I only have my gold NEW Big Boy with the heavier Deluxe head, and haven't ever been able to bring myself to shave with it. That set up is definitely a luxury shave.

I think the NEW Deluxe heads are heavier than the NEW heads on the more common bar-handled or ball-end ones.

I do believe you are correct. Does anyone have the weights recorded?

I can't measure the heads directly because the De Luxe head is attached to the handle like the Old Type Single Rings.

But the Criterion is 21 gms heavier then the common handle New. The De Luxe head is thicker then the common New and I suspect the handle is heavier also. The extra weight of the Criterion is evident as soon as you pick it up. The extra heft has a very nice feel and balance to it.

I have Norfolks, DeLuxe, and standard. On those the heads are 34 and 32g, the heavier being the DeLuxe.

I also weighed a Bostonian and a New Deluxe Criterion, which are basically the same razors besides the head. The New DeLuxe is 78, the New Improved is 75g.

Doesn't seem like much weight, but when it is added to the head it totally changes the balance. I also think that the blade angle is a little different, or maybe it is the angle of the teeth, but the shave feels very different.

Gawd, yes! As well respected as is the standard NEW head configuration, the NEW DeLuxe is incredible!
